Gaga doesn't care about the charts anymore

I appreciate Joanne for the song and video itself but I can't help but realise that Gaga doesn't care about the charts anymore.

First of all, let's be real Joanne is not the most radio-friendly song on Joanne, it would probably be Diamond Heart or A-YO or Dancin' in Circles, but she went on to promote the album's meaning and significance by releasing the title track instead, in January 2018, almost one and a half year after the album release.

She's neither promoting the single (apart from the Grammys) nor pushing it to the radio, like the way she did for Perfect Illusion and Million Reasons.

She literally writes music for the sake of music and not the charts this time round, which is a statement she used to make during the ARTPOP era.

Are you here for this approach? Is this a good thing? Or should she promote her songs ala Born This Way next time round?

Spoiler

She's still here for the awards tho, releasing Joanne as the final single prior to the Grammys is clearly part of a campaign for the Grammys :triggered:

she hasn't cared at all this album cycle as far as singles go

I wonder if that's just how she feels in the moment or if she'll change her mind in future albums

this has nothing to do with charts, radio or whatever it's just a perfect way to end an era, nothing more

and it's beautiful

She used to promote Million Reasons extensively tho, and Perfect Illusion (radio-wise). Strictly speaking it began with The Cure where literally 0 promotion (or fcks) was given.

Too bad her label does :cryga: but it certainly much easier to work when you don't have that kind of pressure

Well, she wants Grammys cause she deserves them for her hard work. It’s a better recognition than money for her.

She actually has the money as well though, Joanne World Tour hasn't even finished yet but it's already grossed $85 million.

Yeah I'm aware of that. But at least she attended radio stations to talk about her new single.

She should have promoted it on TV as well though, the song is so good, it deserved more live performances.

Erm, except for that Japanese show there were literally no television performances of PI. :laughga:

Edit: Yes, she did radio interviews but that's not really the kind of promotion people other than fans pay attention to nowadays, is it?

The Fame Monster

Music should not be a competition of who’s song or album gets the most success. Music might touch a really big group of people or only a small one. But it doesn’t matter. If it has touched even one person, it has done it’s job.

I love that Gaga doesn’t write music for charts. She basicly doesn’t need to anymore. She has enough money and fame to just write whatever she desires. She writes honest and beautiful music.
