I can’t with this fan base trying to claim PI wasn’t a misfire :triggered: It’s the definition of misfire.

It really is. She did a FULL radio tour for it and radio still wouldn't play it past the first two weeks. Huge misfire, at least commercially.

Yeah, I assume this all means commercially.

The song itself isn’t bad, though it is really repetitive. I mean even Gaga can’t perform it full force on tour because it just goes on and on and on

"poppy misfire" is true though. I love PI but (i) it isn't representative of Joanne as a whole and (ii) borrow's Kevin Parker's stylistic effects heavily in the hopes to obtain indie-pop cred. It's just the wrong choice for a single. Thank god Joanne turns out to be a fantastic album.

I really want to like JT's new album but the songs released so far as so average and so overproduced. The SPIN review perfectly sums it:

"In congregating to rig up Timberlake’s over-customized, genre-defiant, but definitively market-ready version of music of the “woods,” this undoubtedly talented team created a monster. There are some handclaps, some Santana-like guitar crocheting, and African-and-Latin-adjacent percussion rhythms, each importing a misplaced bit of exoticism that’s hard to account for at all. What “woods” has Timberlake been visiting, exactly? Punctuated with arbitrary shards of trap hi-hats, the confusing combination of elements results in a wholly funk-free backing track."
