Lady Gaga has openly spoke about her battles with addiction towards drugs, particularly cocaine at a rather young age, prior to her astronomically successful career taking off.

I myself struggle with dependency and substance abuse.  I wanted to openly talk about the topic.  Does anyone know much about Gaga’s past with substance abuse?  When it began? Why it escalated? Why it reached a point she had to quit?  I’m intrigued by the topic.  Share your thoughts.

RAMROD

She said once (lke during MTN era, if I recalled correctly) her dad caught her snorting and she was so embarrassed hence stopped doing coke altogether. And flush it down the toilet.

But IMHO, she might get a rehab or two in between, but this is just my guessing.

ELEMENTALITY

It goes ALOT deeper than anyone here will ever know about. There are things she has said, done, and referred to that only someone who is an addict or been around addicts will understand.

My bet is that Gaga is an addict. Alcoholic? I think she lets herself do that and somehow manages it. But I think she had some major issues which has alot more to do with her pain than we know.

I think she probably used alot of cocaine up until the Born This Way era (hence why she acted so strange sometimes). During the BTW Ball I think she tried to substitute that with marijuana for a while (she started talking about it, she started to gain weight) but it didn't really solve anything. A part of me wonders if this is what Dope is realllly about and why some of the people that abandoned her did. Maybe that was why she sang that right after the whole manager split thing? idk...

I think after that whole ARTPOP mess it became a sort of wake up call for her and thats why she kind of stepped back a little bit. Cheek to Cheek was time for her to get sober. Joanne was the reckoning. The sort of "I'm sorry" to her family that she felt she had to do after all that chaos. There is alot of struggle but if you look at Gaga's career arc, it resembles that of a recovering addict.

Like....alot of people don't understand that there are actual "cycles" that addicts go through. And alot of is their fault. But of all the things that are a person's fault, being an addict is like the least their fault of all the things that a person could be at fault for. I hope that makes sense to people here. People often make out addicts to be bad people but really they are just ill and have a disease. Their brain works differently and no one knows whether they're going to be an addict or alcoholic or anything of that nature the first time they try it. Literally anyone could be. And the sad part is most addicts and alcoholics don't even realize that they have a problem because they feel like they are just doing what everyone else is. It's very complicated. Alot of it has to do with facing yourself.

I notice within the gay community the irony in that we are so brave to come out, but after that gay people many times get wrapped up in addiction and can no longer face themselves because we create this world of such meaningless sexuality and re-hashing of popularity contests. And the alcohol goes along so much with it, we barely notice we are eating ourselves away slowly...looking for the next best thing, not even really enjoying what we came out of the closet for in the first place: freedom.

Addiction is sad, man.
