It’s a show for successful and established singers to compete against each other. If not established and successful, they are usually super talented and known in a region and they want to take the fame to national level, e.g. G.E.M. from Hong Kong, Dimash Kudaibergen from Kazakh. They all became super successful in China after the show. The original concept is from a Korean show of the same name. The contestant of this Chinese version have been crazy the past years, full of iconic singers who had MJ type of status within the Chinese speaking community. So it’s really not a The Voice or X Factor. So they’ll invite 7 singers for the first episode and eliminate some of them in later episodes with audience votings (no professional judge coz you can’t ask a pop star who is a potential contestant to judge). After the elimination, they’ll invite more singers to join the show so the number of contestant always remain 7. 

It has 100M+ of viewers every show its really one of the flagship shows in China. That also explains the high budget. If you know something about recording equipments you’ll notice how advanced and expensive the equipments are in this show. I mean they film in 8K too. 

In the first episode, in Jessie J’s interview, she said she really wanted to join and loved the idea of the show after watching Coco Lee slaying Price Tag last season (and also winning). 

Is this show controversial? Yes. Coz it’s China you can’t expect the audience voting results to be not rigged. It’s hard for a non-Chinese the win the show. So now on websites like the Chinese version of Reddit, people have been saying that the show will eventually find excuses to eliminate her maybe health problem or visa etc. to kick her out of the show before finals so a Chinese singer can win. So let’s see if it’s true.

Auto Tune is added to all contestants since season 1. China loves auto tune in singing performances. It’s really not a shade to singers.

Ok I’m very impressed, I’m usually super picky when it comes to covers because it’s almost never just as good and the singer tries to hard to imitate rather then add their own personality to the song but she did, she didn’t try to be Whitney she just wanted to sing this song as good as she can and she nailed it.

Honestly this is a clever move by her team, it could pay off if she wins and becomes popular in Asia. Just look at how popular K Pop has become in Western culture, it’s like she knows she is done for in Western countries but might be able to make $ in Asia.
