Wtf Lorde :air:

(I am also bummed she isn't performing, but they want ratings, and Melodrama wasn't as successful as PH and Royals :rip:)

There are no actual rules about albums winning with no attendance from the artist (I'm not sure the data on this thing occuring though), but It seems common practice that this happens, even though the voting is done much before many artists decide to attend :gum:

I really wanted Melodrama (or DAMN.) to win AOTY. Melodrama imo is the only other album on that list that's deserving, and the political discourse would be interesting. Kendrick admittedly does deserve the award more, but this time it wouldn't be like, Taylor vs Kendrick levels of disgusting, as Melodrama is actually a masterful album worth the acclaim its receiving. (1989 was literally just commercially successful :emma: Decently successful for Critics, but it was no EMOTION by Carly Slay Jepsen if we are talking about pop records :sis: )

Kendrick BETTER ****ing win then.

IDGAF about Ed and Taylor not showing up. If the reasoning is really because of "snubs", how about we consider the fact that most of what these two artists make (more so Ed than Taylor, lets be fair) is quite basic compared to some of their competition :gum: Ed can have several seats, he was "expected" to get more noms because hes popular and tends to get them, not because he's an amazingly talented song writer, melodist, and lyricist whos ever done **** to change the landscape of pop music or add anything innovative to it (OR even master the model thats already in place :emma: )

That might've been aggressive, but I honestly don't think any serious music critics take Ed Sheeran's music to be an example of "great" pop if we can overlook the weird way we gender pop music critiques :gum:

Good for them. We should be nominating artist on artistic integrity, not the color of their skin, or trying to be PC. Lorde, Gaga, and Sheeran deserved more. Taylor, even though I like the album, I'm ok with not having as many noms.

I have never bought one of Sheeran's albums, and I"m not even a fan, but I'm not sure why you're giving him such a hard time. He, Produces, writes all of his songs. He plays multiple instruments in every song that is recorded. HE has a good voice. Just because you personally don't like him(and that's your right) doesn't mean you should discredit him as an artist. He has more to do with the production of his albums than most of the people nominated.

I have every one of his albums (not bought though, oops) and I am aware of all of this. Not saying he isn't talented... but also nothing that he brings to the table as far as pop goes is very substantial, or even subverts itself. I like pop music, and I am a strong believer in "pop music will never be low brow" and things of that nature.

But I do think that the amount of acclaim, success, and the awards he receives are disproportionate to the talent of other artists who manage to do what he does (musically) and even more :gum: It is one thing to be multi-talented, and to have a lot of influence on your records. Not many artists can have these things, not because of a lack of talent, but because of management. However, it doesn't guarantee that the product is going to be naturally impressive. Ed Sheeran is not Beck, for example. He's not Grimes (the queen of DIY). I think hes a fine artist, but that's it.

And perhaps some of this is out of his control  But I digress, its my opinion.

Also the Grammy is given out before the show and so is the one for country song so there's no point for Taylor to come at all, they will ship her the grammies by FedEx :ladyhaha:

I understand why everyone except Ed is not going. If Ed doesn't attend, that's really going to prove how egotistical he is because having the biggest album of the year and then getting 2 nominations still means you have a big chance. Therefore, the only reason he's not going is because he thinks he deserved more and thought "screw your awards." That attitude is going to down really badly with the academy. I can understand Lorde being a no-show - having your only nomination being in AOTY is bizarre and being the only female, she likely knows she only got there because there needed to be a female nominee. Justin's not nominated for anything, so it's no big deal (if he isn't asked to perform) and Taylor isn't nominated for anything from her album and her only nominations are for non-televised awards, both of which she has a slim chance of winning. But she must also be majorly pissed that LWYMMD failed to get any nominations. Shake It Off got 3 and her lead singles from Red and onwards have always been nominated, so she was likely expecting it. This is why she always releases her lead just before the deadline - maybe the academy's getting wise to her game? This snub must have hit her like a ton of bricks. I've been noticing that she's really struggled to win Grammys of late. Fearless was her big peak with 4 wins and then she fell off. Speak Now won 2, she won for Best Song Written for Visual Media, Red won nothing and 1989 only won 3 (one of which was for Best Music Video) despite having 10 nominations. Now she can't even get a nomination for her record-breaking #1 lead single. She must really have the academy in her bad books right now.

Let's not pretend this is the People's Choice Awards, but wow, if this many people are turning up their noses at invites despite being nominated, it could really work in Gaga's favour. It'll show she's not too proud to perform and turn up and honours the awards. People who diss the ceremony famously stop getting nominated.

With Gaga it is about the music and not her ego. That’s why i love her!

What do you guys think the Recording Academy is? Some kinda AMA? They won't give Gaga those awards only because she's attending. Even if Ed doesn't show up he could still win.
