That's how Clinton lost the electoral college.

you're right in that there are many pieces to the puzzle but imo the ultimate reason people don't come out and vote or voted the way they did in 2016 is because it's difficult to make sense of the political playing field. to differentiate between nonsense and good policy and the sheer gravity of it.

personally i think going from obama to clinton wasn't an extreme at all, that going from obama to bernie would have been in the sense that bernie wanted to do some dramatically different things. clinton would have been obama 2.0 and yet a lot of people turned away even though support for obama was at a high.

but back to my main point: if more people had the wherewithal to know what donald trump was really saying during the campaign when he was all, dismantle NATO, let japan defend itself, we're gonna bring back coal, the fake media, and on and on, people would have ran to the polls and voted against him because it is clear from very very VERY early on in DT's campaign that he has no idea what he's talking about, he's a disgruntled liar, and that his ideas are not only extremely bad, but dangerous. a painted rock could have been the democratic candidate and it should have won tbh.

Yea, that's the sad reality unfortunately. I do believe that 2020 will fair much better for the Dems though. Especially if Trump continues to do what he's currently doing. And that's why I said that Independents will be very important because Trump still has a very high approval rating from Republicans.

The sad part to me is that legislation and policy wise, Trump has been mostly all talk and accomplished almost nothing he set out to do that was major, so those "Trump for life!" bros and white supremacists are actually losing
