Oprah thinking of running for president

For an office such as US President, I think having empathy, understanding the limits of your knowledge and just being a natural people-person would make you more qualified than most career-politicians.

You’ve got to realise a lot of the politicians who do go for the “top jobs” do it for their own fame/ego.  

I’d like to think Oprah would do it for wanting to lead in an exemplary way, therefore she has the qualifications.  Plus she’s spent so much of her career talking to the regular people, basically what politicians struggle with the most .

First George Clooney, now Oprah. This is getting absurd. I hang my head in shame that the once great liberal side now believes that giving a good speech would automatically make you a good president. Jesus in heaven. Celebrities don't have a clue what being a president actually involves. People become politicians for a reason - so they can learn how be a good leader and have all the right intelligence where it matters. A celebrity or an ordinary citizen truly underestimates what it involves. That's why anyone who ever says: "I could make a better president!" never actually tries out for the job. Because they know they wouldn't have a clue. I'm rubbish at maths, what would I know about balancing the budget? Or any of those high-faluting political terms? And I wouldn't like to be flown all over the country and abroad just for a quick meeting. Or being made to live somewhere I don't want to. Do you really think a celebrity who's lived their life in luxury want this either? Just because a celebrity is wanting to try out for the Democrat side does not make them a good person automatically. Liberal leaders haven't all been saints. Liberals have repeatedly laughed at the concept of how Republicans happily elected a celebrity but are now campaigning for celebrities to run in 2020 for the Democrat side. You couldn't make this up.

Image means nothing in the grand scheme of things. What matters is if your leader can cause your country from falling apart and make it prosper. Extremes are never good.  The funny thing is, even a lot of the right didn't support Sarah Palin because they felt she didn't have the experience. And the left agreed even more. So, why are the left now wanting a non-politican celebrity to be president when they laughed at the idea of Palin and Trump? It just goes to show that the left is just as guilty as the right of the exact same flaws in their own way. The left are unfortunately being too focused on style over substance right now and the sad thing is, they can't even see it. Would I prefer Oprah as a president over Trump? Absolutely. But would I prefer an actual politician becoming president over a celebrity? Absolutely. Let's not lose our heads here.

TBH, this is the reason why a lot of people, especially in Europe, think that America is by far one of the dumbest nations on Earth. When Trump announced that he would be running for president, we were all like "they can't be that dumb and elect this guy". But now he's president and to this day, we joke about him/America and won't ever take him seriously. 

All these announcements from celebrities about potentially running for president are a joke and the people actually supporting them just reinforce the stereotype about how dumb Americans are. Honestly, from an outside perspective, American politics is just ridiculous.

Preach it. Us Europeans are either laughing or crying over the whole sorry state of affairs right now. In the early days of the campaign, I didn't think Republicans would actually elect him. They try to continuously reinforce that they are down to earth people, they hate a lot of celebrities and Hollywood, the whole idea of a celebrity being president used to be ridiculous to them. They want a candidate with experience in politics, so Trump didn't fit. But the more the campaign went on and when those MAGA hats came about, signifying cultural impact, the possibility grew bigger and bigger in my mind. Unlike a lot of fellow liberals, I was not surprised by the time the result was read out, even though so many of them said "no one saw this coming." Hello, the tide has been shifting for some time, and liberals became complacent. And when you become complacent, a celebrity becomes president.

The President's image, manner and words matter. 

Wrong. Obama brought us back from the brink of another Depression. He put the economy back on the right track.

Of course there can be. I don't believe Oprah would pull people in that were nutcases and rejects.

People didn't support Sarah Palin because she was dumb as a rock. She actually had political experience. 

I laugh at Trump because he's an idiot. I didn't feel the same about other inexperienced nominees from the past or ones that have been mentioned for possibility in the future...and that's on both sides.

My thoughts were well beyond "sure, why not". I'm not losing my head over this possibility. If the possibility does occur, I will consider Oprah based on how her values line up with mine, on her priorities and on her policies. I have always given careful consideration to candidates that I vote for... from the local level to the highest office in the land. 2020 will be no different.

I strongly believe that only qualified candidates should be president. Like, Hillary was the most qualified and we got a buffoon instead  At least someone with a history of politics. Maybe she should run for some kind of public office instead? I'm totally down for that.

BUT if for some sick reason this were impossible, there was 0 chance a qualified democrat/independent would win (lol independents winning  ) and it were like, 0% chance vs trump or Oprah vs Trump... well I can't think of many celebrities I would rather have as president other than Oprah. That's a real successful business person who didn't make her money lying and filing bankruptcy and scamming people

(Though I know Oprah is not without her controversies  )

To elaborate:

At least Oprah is intelligent and compassionate. She's also not like, a "far left liberal" like some might assume - I find that most of the people that are tend to not be famous, but exist on the internet... thats the reason its "far" - its fringe, minority, etc.) and she is widely respected.

Obviously not every president has been a lawyer, served in the military, held a job in the white house before, has experience with foreign policy, and is not completely divorced from the will of the people. There are gives and takes, sometimes large and small. (Hillary for example was not in the military, but her resume for this job was uniquely apt)

Oprah would have essentially the same credentials as Trump, but with the added bonus of actually being a competent human being. The Democrats wouldnt have to "use" Oprah as their scapegoat to pass their insidious agenda, she would be willing and supportive of this agenda and do her best to represent the wishes of others. I don't doubt that at all. I don't think celebrities should be president, I think the person that is best for the job - and has the best wishes of the country in mind (not just white rich men, sorry republicans  ) should be president. There have been plenty of presidents that have the experience, but who did not run or become president because of a long, deeply held conviction towards bettering our country at heart. The ideal is both. The closest we have had in my life time was Obama (his qualifications were iffy, but by GOLLY did his sincere love for this country and its people shine through. However, he wasn't completely unqualified by any means, - he was probably as ideal as we would get unless someone like Bernie was elected) I am not 100% opposed to voting for her, with this in mind.

Now lets say it was like, Oprah vs a newly invigorated and cleaned up Elizabeth Warren. I'd go Warren (even though people tend to hate her) for quite a few reasons, experience being one of them.

If Kanye or the Rock ****ing runs though...  Like, stop, they both seem (especially Kanye) so full of themselves that they seem inspired by the idea of a celebrity becoming president and making a difference. I think the person that actively "wants" to be president in such a way is probably the exact person you do not want to be president. Also, in terms of spirit and respect, morality, etc. These two are not even on the same radar as Oprah, who inspired a generation of women as a talk show host, built homes for children and women, has run a business, and empowered and shown her conviction towards helping the less fortunate. She literally created a venue for her to get to know the American people for decades and is clearly a much more wise and emotionally intelligent human being because of it.

If Oprah is seriously going to run, she's going to have to tell other "celebrities" to back the hell down and support her, less the race become a ****ing circus

Oprah would be great on the social side, but there are some hard choices a president has to make that im not sure she could handle. As much as we would like to, a country cant be handled under a "give everything to people" philosophy.

Id love if she was the next president's VP, or a close advisor, but i dont want to put the hard stuff on her hands.

A couple years ago I remember HOWLING when I heard that nut job from the Apprentice, Donald Trump, of all people, was running. It was like one of those strange, “that could never happen” things.

I'm 100% certain that she would be a better leader in many ways than the current US president. Not only does she have a strong sense of morality and compassion for the working class, she is as strong a business woman as Trump, if not stronger (no small loan of a million dollars to get her where she is today), and she is certainly more intelligent.

I wouldn't be mad tbh. Here's my little preference chart:

Proper Democratic politician > Oprah > any Republican >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dirt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Trump

So yeah, in the event that she gets the Democratic nomination (or the other Dems. are just terrible) I would vote for her. She's like our own Trump except she doesn't have his glaring personality defects, she's actually intelligent, and she wasn't handed everything she has. She worked her ass off to be where she is now. She has a real success story without million dollar loans, inheriting fortunes, decades of breaking the law, and stepping on others to make a buck. Plus, she'd actually want to win (unlike Trump) and would learn the bits and bots of being president before even considering a run.

So yeah, even though I'd rather have someone experienced, I don't think she'd be bad at all
