It’s just a word. “N*gga (/ˈnɪɡə/) is a colloquial term used in African American Vernacular English that began as an eye dialect form of the word n*gger, an ethnic slur against black people. In some dialects of English, the word is pronounced the same as ******, including where common speech is non-rhotic.”

The modern use for said word is not rotted to the original meaning. It’s essentially slang for “homie”. I think it’s extremely unnecessary to dictate who can say what. PartySick 160,643
I really only have two bits of advice for anyone surrounding this topic. 1) Stop using slurs. Period. Regardless of what color you are, they're stupid and if you use them others will too. Reclaiming or not, it's been pointed out in this thread a dozen times that there are a lot of other words you could say And if you use that word or some other slur but get upset about others using it then maybe you need to be the change you want to see in the word 2) Stop letting words hurt you I've been called racial and homophobic slurs to my face and dealt with harassment from bigots for years. At some point you learn to stop getting upset and start ignoring them 'cause they're literally irrelevant. Only idiots use hate speech and idiots aren't worth the stress. You shouldn't be giving words that much power anyway. Not unless it's a legitimate threat, full on hate speech/a call for violence, or it's coming from someone in power. So basically, he shouldn't have used that word and y'all shouldn't be ready to put him and each other in the ground for it. You're stinky
NIghtmareElm 2,606
I honestly hope he and his brother put our more racist videos. That way both of their images can be more tarnished. Both of them look like they smell like Axe and testicle sweat.

I’ve grown up in a city where race never really mattered. Yes, we may have that one neo-nazi that thinks they’re high and mighty, but I’ve always been surrounded by people of so many backgrounds and cultures. I’m friends with so many different people and we’ve always felt life was about living and laughing. (It’s a cliche, I know.) We constantly crack jokes in their most extreme form. And never once batted an eyelash when we played on stereotypes. Its simply a matter of comfort between ourselves and the people around us. However, as another lovely user told me, I cannot expect everyone to have the same comfort as me. So I have lacked empathy for this subject in specific. Just so you know I support you. I grew up in a predominantly black population (Memphis, TN. 63% Black or African American 2010 Census) and my friends would call their other friends N***a regardless of their race. I got very desensitized to the word. Now I’m an adult living in Portland, OR which is predominantly white but my close friends are mostly POC. We openly talk about race, racism, unity, etc and also “cultural appropriation”. I use it in quotes because I don’t choose to acknowledge it either because we ALL steal concepts and ideas from other cultures Anyhoo, I personally choose not to say N***a in any sense of the word but mostly because I don’t like it. I support you and your friends for being open about it. Using the word, regardless of race, and then dictating who and who can not use it is the opppsite of unity and is actually divisive. IMO: If you’re using it in a positive connotation like friend or however people use it (I’m so out of touch with the cool kids these days), Proceed. If you’re using it for Hate. Stop. I’m white btw. The reverse racism in this society kills me. It’s so much easier to just support unity and treat everyone as equals. There are a lot of racist white people just like there are a lot of racist black people and Hispanic people. Don’t be part of the problem.
