Next time I hear about cultural appropriation I will shriek. This reverse racism is killing me.

He didn't appropriate his own culture.  The show the video is paying homage to (In Living Color) was primarily black and latino.  This show was awesome for its time, even for today.  Bruno and Cardi did an awesome job!

Can we leave the whole “cultural appropriation” thing in 2017? WE ALL STEAL EACH OTHERS SH*T AND HAVE BEEN SINCE THE DAWN OF TIME.

Sick of this bs.

Don't mind these people. Attention is all they want. This is 2018, let these people died out and left unheard.

Enigma

Can’t believe the people who are calling Katy a racist for eating a watermelon are the ones who dig into someone’s ancestry just to know if he’s black or not and therefore if he can wear whatever the **** he wants to wear :neyde:

I wouldn't call it appropriation. Cardi is Afro-Latinx, and Bruno is part-Afro-Latinx, and they are Black (although I don't know to the extent that they claimed it). A lot of the 90's cultural aesthetic they are referencing, while produced and recreated by Black folks, aren't exclusive to them. I mean, take a look at 90's cultural aesthetic throughout the United States- it was lived through many communities in the hood, Black and Latinx and Asian and Islander.

OP's friend has a point about the video being very "lightskin", but that is a colorism issue that isn't necessarily due in part to Cardi or Bruno. It's a much bigger industry and societal problem altogether, even within Black and Latinx communities.

Good. Just because you think he is black, Does not make him black lol. Neither one of his parents are black, or are part black. There is plenty of reference to his heritage online.

Anyway. WHo cares. There were white people on In living color too. Jim Carey was one of the bigger castmates on the show. So just because a Latina/black rapper, and a Filipino singer recreate it, its cultural appropriation? So stupid.
