And? Despacito was too and it's cheesy as hell.

Ed is the biggest copycat I've seen. Shape Of You was a rip-off of TLC's No Scrubs to the point where he had to CREDIT them for songwriting. His Castle on the Hill had very similar lyrics to Lukas Graham's 7 Years, his Liam Payne track is "sampling" It Wasn't Me by Shaggy (we all know had the TLC case not have taken place, Ed would've most likely NOT credited Shaggy. It's so plain to see it wasn't intended as a sample but pure rip-off since the lyrics aren't the same, just the melody). And to top it off, he was SUED for creating an IDENTICAL Let's Get It On instrumental to Thinking Out Loud.

He's talented, but he's so unoriginal.

the only difference is 'No Scrubs' is actually iconic, 'Shape of You' is just radio friendly and will be forgotten in 6 months time :tea: also how dare people compare a masterpiece of a song to a song that was played on a few radios and was a conversation for a short period of time....

To me 'New Rules' by Due Lipa definitely deserves to be crowned the 'No Scrubs' of this music era :lana:

OMG, I've bought that exact same packet of cheese singles before! I'm going to look at them in a whole different light now! And yes, I've never noticed the "a little less cheesy" tagline before. I have no idea why it says that!

Just the other day, I just realised for the first time that SIO does indeed sound like the chorus of No Scrubs, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. Although certainly the tune of Cheap Thrills was definitely the driving inspiration that was brought to the fore here. You also make a good point with the Lukas Graham comparison, never noticed that. I don't know if Strip That Down sounds like the refrain in It Wasn't Me, though, but so saying, it wasn't completely different either (that track had 14 writers on it, so I don't believe this song was truly anybody's, truth be told). And yeah, Thinking Out Loud definitely has the tune of Let's Get It On in the chorus. For a song that's so sweet and conservative, the chorus takes on a surprising bit of a sexy rhythm...now I know why.

Doesn't matter. Ed CREDITED both Shaggy and TLC in the songwriting credits afterwards because of lawsuits. He's an incredible thief!
