Yeah, because to stop consuming somebody's work because they were accused of a crime without a single strand of evidence is not imbecile and alienated at all, right?

I don't like to connect the personal life of an artist TOO much with their work. If I like an artist's work I will still continue to listen to it regardless of what they have done/who they are as a person. However, I won't purchase their music, attend a concert, or do anything else that directly supports them, nor would I call myself a fan.

No shade but the news about rape reminded me of her existence and made me listen to her again. I was really obsessed with the Crybaby album back in 2015 tho.

Would you continue listening if she confessed to it, and said that she did do everything she was accused of

Are you kidding me , MM2 has been my most anticipated album before 2017 even started. I'm sure she will deliver and it will be stellar. So yes I will surely stream it.

The allegations are between her and Tim. There is no way for us THE GP to know who's 100% right. So I rather not get into it. I'm here for the music. I don't see how my streams will make Melanie a rapist (which no one can factually say she is). When you are supporting an artist , you are getting a product in return. It's a give and take situation. You people buy stuff all the time from people god knows what they've done.

I agree with this. If she is accused I would still probably listen to her and go see her concert, but I know she would never have the full respect that I use to give her.

Until everything is settled and the truth comes out, I'm staying on neutral ground.

I tried listening to her stuff but I just couldn't get into it so this is another reason to reaffirm myself :gaycat:

Never liked her baby fetish nor her lispy voice so these accusations don’t affect my opinion on her music anyway :reductive:

I liked her on The Voice- found her to be interesting. I didn't care much for all the baby stuff from her first album. I don't think I could support her with my money, or any other way, at this point.

Hell no. Why would I knowingly give my money to a potential rapist?

Would anyone still give money to R. Kelly, Chris Brown, etc. even tho they’re terrible human beings? Why would anyone willingly fund these people’s lifestyles after the **** they’ve done?

Also, it’s nearly impossible for me to disconnect the artist from the art. If they care at all about artistic integrity, then their art will reflect them as a person, whether it be directly (e.g. writing lyrics based on a subject you wish to bring attention to via music) or indirectly (the subconscious part of art: what the type of lyrics, production, structure, etc. of a piece of music says about the artist)

So it’s either 1) genuine, and that’s low key kinda sick to support art from someone like that, kinda like buying and admiring Hitler’s art pieces. Or 2) it was all commercial BS that’s created solely to sell, in which case it leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth lol

Maybe I’m just being way too pretentious, but that’s just how I feel about artists/art ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Stanning for Gaga made me set the bar too high lol
