Bambino 24,040
If MR was the first single released from the album, would the era have been any different?
pedrohemg 7,802
Maybe. I think MR had potential to go #1.
Yo GagaGaga 6,541
I think it would've done better than PI and I think would've gotten more people in on the Joanne era since a lot of people were turned off by Perfect Illusion, but I think the max chart potential was having it after the super bowl. ryanripley 86,575
well, would she had promoted it so hard or would it get the same treatment as PI? maybe that's why PI was the lead single https://goo.gl/xMgMvJ
Flapjack 1,242
Truly iconic start to an era with an iconic music video () then going to Diamond Heart and finally PI would have been rad. Video trilogy about the emotional phases of breaking up I think it would have made more people enjoy the era from the get-go.
Edonis 28,540
It reaches number 4 because of the SuperBowl. Maybe it would’ve charted a bit higher than PI in the months leading up to the show, but I don’t think it would’ve reached number 1 or anything like that. Thrasher 22,980
Million Reasons wouldn’t have worked if released on September 9 (basically still summer) like PI. Maybe if it had been released on October as a lead single yes, the era would have been different. “Come over, when you’re sober”
romonster 1,782
She would have had to release the song in October 2016 to win the love of the public and critics through the Super Bowl performance, thus getting nominated at the 2018 Grammys. It being the lead single might also mean we would have gotten a proper music video. Perfect Illusion was definitely a bad lead single choice and doesn't showcase the new sound that she went for with Joanne.
funkyhaus 7,697
With an amazing understated but with a Gaga twist video I think it would have done amazingly and really showcased what Joanne was about, and it fits perfectly as the first single after an era as painful as ARTPOP
nobreaks 720
so many people would've unstanned omg joanne gwaan like mi father. all now, mi can't see her.
Reality 71,272
One thing's for sure: there would have been a ton more meltdowns. By now, people are used to MR, but I can only imagine the number of people here going, "We waited years for another pop album, and she releases a country/pop ballad?! What the **** Gaga?!" Mr S 8,053
Anything would have done better than PI. That song turned so many people off.
ArtGagaPop 61,940
I always thought she should have waited until the divebar stop to release any music at all so MR released on a friday as lead before the divebar would been perfect. With radio deals, prepared video and all the promo MR got in the last months of 2016 i think it easily could have gone #1. And since MR was alot more loved by people then pi it could been doing amazing on radios even after the deal and stay strong even to the superbowl. Releasing PI in early september and doing nothing for the song just felt strange and not at all like a lead single era.
River 103,963
She could Adele herself like surprise release for MR and few hours after dropping the album I'm working late, cause I'm a puta
androiduser 7,301
Yes, it would have been a better choice.... it's a stronger single, did better than PI even before Superbowl, and it is more representative of the album.... PI is a nice album song, and that's it, and as the lead single it did harm to the album promotion and sales.
