The change-up sounds like they brought in diversity to give everyone a fighting chance and many of those albums are great. Personally, I loved 4:44, DAMN., Gambino and SZA. They were all very well received. By contrast, someone like Gaga got so so reviews except for Million Reasons which has been widely praised. These nominations feel pretty accurate to where music was in 2017 imo. Even Ed Sheeran, who everyone thought would dominate didn’t and that’s partly because his album really wasn’t that critically well received. To me, this lineup of nominees feels more honest than ever. Major black artists have been bringing it the past few years and this feels like a list that finally recognizes that. It's not like acclaimed/successful albums by black artists didn't get nominations the previous years though.

I don't understand this bullsh*t. Is GagaDaily rooting for Ed Sheeran and his trashy album now? Because that was the only real surprise (besides MR snub, maybe). If these nominations are shocking to you, you haven't been paying attention to pop culture. Pop stars aren't dominating anymore. It's all about urban now. The Grammys nominated great, amazing albums/songs by black artists. It's not like they chose Migos or something like that.

But not in such a way as they did this year and also not at the expense of worse albums by white artists. Like, what a representation in the main categories. Black artists have been nominated, but when Beyoncé only wins, really, for what Urban album (essentially best black album) for Lemonade, an album that had massive critical acclaim, that’s not honestly being recognized. That’s giving her a nom so she’ll perform (as they did). She was nominated for AOTY, but Adele won for an album that even she thought wasn’t as good. I’d agree with you if the albums nominated weren’t actually all great, but they are and were similarly the ones that got the most praise this year while white artists really didn’t aside from Bjork who is eligible next year. tomsches 17,399
The fact is, it is music that should be awarded. Good, high quality music. I don't care where the artist comes from, which language the song is in, of what skin colour the singer is. It should be about the music only. Also they could and should have given more nods to women, not just black men. I've seen you ask this twice. Honestly, his album and record deserve their respective nominations. I suggest you listen to them

Jed 7,716
literally the biggest music this last year was done by people of color. The fact Gaga got her two noms while all her pop peers didn't is very generous and she definitely deserves it.
Anderson123 38,415
Does this mean Melodrama wont win Album of the Year? I can already see Twitter going “Of course the only white person wins” because you can’t please everyone.
