Yes, the lyrics are cringe-worthy but songs like Getaway Car, I Did Something Bad, Don't Blame Me, Ready For It, Delicate, etc. pretty much the whole album is catchy as hell. It does have its ups and downs but it's a nice album if you want to listen to something mainstream. I listened to Witness and I thought it was a step up from her past work. I have ALWAYS disliked cheesy Katy Perry songs like Roar, Birthday, Last Friday Night, Peacock, This Is How We Do, etc. but she has released songs that were my guilty pleasure like The One That Got Away, Dark Horse, ET and Teenage Dream. This time with Witness I liked Chained To The Rhythm and listened to the album a couple of times but I got super bored and doesn't really have that many interesting songs, maybe Tsunami but still, you HAVE to be a Katy Perry fan or force yourself to like it because if I were trying new music I'd pass on it. I like that she's being "experimental" for someone like her but you can tell Dr. Luke was the mastermind behind her hits. As for Taylor's past work, I started listening to her around the time Shake It Off was everywhere. Blank Space and Style caught my attention and I really liked those songs. In my opinion Katy Perry just isn't a very talented songwriter/ musician. Witness was underwhelming. I don't think she'll bounce back from this album. Taylor Swift on the other hand... The only song I don't think is great on Reputation is End Game. It's good but not great like the rest of the songs. Reputation is in my top five of the year. Taylor using a metaphor for Gatsby is by far better than every song in Witness combined: "I once was poison ivy, but now I'm your daisy" Or may be: "Burton to this Taylor" - Reference herself as Elizabeth Taylor (Whom has a very complicated love-life too, and the press was just all bout' her life not het career) Her wordplay is phenomenal.
