... visually interesting female artists never managed to hit it big?

I had this question for quite some time now.

Whenever there is/was a pop girl with interesting visuals and strong stage presence, she's compared to Gaga. Is that the reason why females such as ones in the example below, Neon Hitch, Porcelain Black, Brooke Candy, Natalia Kills never managed to gain major success? I mean, even Xtina during Bionic era was compared to Gaga, which was seen as one of the main reasons, if not the main one, why the album flopped.

Of course that there were some other factors which led to their underperforming, their labels being the biggest one (Porcelain, Neon and Brooke never got their album released), music too sexual (Neon), questionable personality (Porcelain) and similar, but despite the decent promotion some of them got, they just didn't break into the mainstream industry. I'm sure there are a few other examples of "victims" like these, I just posted the ones I care about and listen to :laughga:

Did Gaga set the bar for interesting females that high, that the newer ones struggled to shine on their own? Is Gaga the reason we have to deal with basics such as Bebe, Dua or the rest nowadays?

Discuss! :unicorn:

Spoiler

Just to make it clear, cuz I know y'all will bite me about the Dua comment. I like her and her music, but there's no denial her music doesn't being anything new to the table and she's visually not interesting at all.

No. Their music just not selling to the mainstream.

Also, some of these women waited too long to release an album. People are tired of waiting and then something better comes along during these times and they never looked back.

For me with the artists you mentioned most of their music doesn't stand out and I don't see it going mainstream. That would be my guess why.

I was going to drag you and then I read the spoiler :awkney:

OT: Those artist's music just doesn't have enough potential to be as impactful as Gaga was when she started

Well, yeah, I mentioned that. Poor them, labels can truly be a nightmare.

when it comes to the artists you mentioned above, it comes off as try-hard to me, it doesn't seem authentic, Gaga was weird because she is weird, everything about her was genuine, that was her, she isn't visually pleasing for the sake of it, she is that way inherently, that's what I think. FKA twigs is visually pleasing because she projects who she truly is. Björk too. plus their music is great. i think.

I mean they're not even considered as one hit wonders.

Wouldn't they have to rise and at least give the GP one hit before they get compared to Gaga and fade away?

There are many other artists with an imagine that have hit it relatively mainstream if you consider artists such as Melanie Martinez, Allie X, & Tove Lo.

Obviously not as big as Gaga, but.. the scene of trying to be different has became mainstream in itself.

And don't forget before Gaga every other female singer was compared to an icon before them. :toofunny:
