This couldn't be more accurate. I've experienced this SO many times on the Quebec side. I can't stand it.

The reason i went there was because i adore french culture and it's the closest i could at the time. I tried my best to read up on the language and a few quebecers have told me i can pronounce pretty well, but not having a proper teacher, i can only form basic sentences. I was there to appreciate their culture and this girl who works in customer service doesnt even hide her annoyance in my effort to speak french. To this day i am still surprised that my experience in Quebec city itself in a less-cheap/common food chain ended up being better

at the very least im happy i did not experience that again when i came back with my girlfriend for our anniversary. Would have ruined the date

Excuse me I spoke French in Quebec City in Starbucks and the lady was very kind to me but I tried speaking French in a McDonald's in Montreal and the lady scoffed at me and rolled her eyes at me

and i thought the deeper in french territory you go, the more snob people are

beautiful language but bad manners turned me off from learning the language completely. Good luck fostering an understanding environment.

Have you ever thought about why this is so? I'll explain it to you: in Québec City, you can live solely in French and it is predominately a francophone city in all areas of public life. This is why people do not feel endangered by anglophone tourists...because theycan life nevertheless in French. And the Anglo Tourists in Québec City do not destroy local culture.

In Montréal it's a whole different city. Partially it is not possible to life anymore solely in French. Switching to English is a part of everyday life, mainly because the other side does not want to speak French or does not nkow it. There are plenty of Anglo-Canadians in the western suburbs who had French at school but does not bother to use it because they can be sure to be always served in English...this is why some people in Montréal are annoyed... they realize how their language is declining..being invaded by English. That's also why they can be harsh to native Anglos like you. You are a tourist. You go back to your country and everything will be in your language. This does not apply to us in Montréal. It is our place, we do not wanna leave. We want it to be in French. And if you do have to use if excessively (English), we become rude towards others.

This is the biggest garbage I've read on this website in awhile. I'm glad she held up the Canadian flag. Montreal is part of Canada, and the Canadian flag represents us. Get over yourself and move onto more important things in your life instead of getting angry over something so incredibly stupid.

 :fthis:

The Canadian flag represents Anglo-Canadian culture and Anglo-Canadian values, it is inseparably connected to Canadian colonialism under Great Britain.

Honey, while you are writing your sentence, one more street sign is being put up in English-only in Montréal and violating our Charter of the French language. We have our laws but they are not enuogh. We have to extend them to artistis, too. Our laws apply to businesses but not to artists, it's a shame. Of course, artists shouldn't be forced to do their activities in French...that's not my intention. But they should get help from the many translators that are available and spread their slogans at least bilingual, so that it does not comeat the expanse of a community that is about to become a minority.. :)

Isn't Québec a part of Canada? :oprah:

Then blame the own history of your country, not Gaga. Plus, as many have said, it was a fan who gave it to her.

God, why do people get offended by the simplest things?

Honey, we are on a Lady Gaga fansite. Everything Lady Gaga does has a meannig to us. We cannot say: "this is irrelevant". We are here 'cause it is relevant.

Doesn’t the anglophone Canadian flag have to blue stripes?

You mean the US-American flag, don't you?

You also realise that by using your preferred flag you are segregating anyone who doesn’t believe in your way...

Montréal is in Québec and this is the official drapeau du Québec. Lady Gaga can show other flags in other territories. Montréal is the metropolis of Québec. If fans from other provinces come or even from the US, the ymust accept that Montréal is NOT anglophone and this is why it's important that artists show a message that Montréal is not a city where you can come  with the expectation that everything is in English.

Well I'm glad you found something that helped with what you had a problem with. Now you don't have to cause a big unnecessary scene about it :tony:

Yes, thank you for your understanding, now I imagine that I was the fan who gave Lady Gaga the correct flag and the other scenario never happened. All in all, it was a great show. Lady Gaga is a really good performer

Tbh I don't know what will happen on 14th January, Gaga will perform in Barcelona that day. If there are other insane users like Louvre on this site, I'm really scared of what might happen if she holds up a Spanish flag.

None of this makes sense to me. It sounds counterproductive. I am of southeast asian descent and while yes I mainly speak English, I literally made an effort to try to speak French, which based on your argments, should be a good thing. And yet she made it clear she was annoyed
