It's probably based on the "pop songs" chart which I believe was introduced in the late 90s or early 00s. It's why Madonna, Mj, Whitney and others are low or not there.

Sorry, but that is the dumbest f@cking list I've ever seen, although it does a great job of illustrating why chart performance isn't all that matters. Rihanna is a bigger pop legend than Madonna apparently by chart standards but c'mon lol.

gurl i was on atrl yesterday for the first time and there was a post about the biggest pop stars and the oc put gaga at number 5 and like lots of people were like "replace gaga w ariana or sia"
