"Livestock production is a major contributor to carbon emissions. Shifting from animal meat to the plant-based meats developed by Beyond Meat is one of the most powerful measures someone can take to reduce their impact on our climate. The company's ability to create healthy meat directly from plants will go a long way in helping everyday consumers take action on climate change." -Leonardo DiCaprio

There's nothing harder for people to do than admit they were fooled.

I'm really trying towards a vegan diet, and right now I'm working towards vegetarianism.

Initially it was for health reasons, but looking through different studies and whatnot (I'm not a fan of those pro-veganism documentaries; documentaries are rarely impartial) I really think a plant-centric (not based, just centric) diet is simply better. Health-wise and conscience-wise.

I don't get how people can advocate (even implicitly) animal rights and welfare, yet sit down and munch on a cooked carcass. The epitome of hypocrisy.

Spoiler

if anyone remembers the whole dog market in China thread...yeah...

I thought that was the case (and still do somewhat).

But this is a complete myth.

Just look for canned beans, grains (not the fancy ones. Rice, oats etc. are more than enough), tofu which is crazy cheap, veggies (fresh, frozen, canned if you're desperate), pasta (craaaazy cheap in practically any country!).

If you're in the US (think: Trader Joe's or Costco NOT Whole Foods) veganism is even cheaper than where I'm from.

A good rule of thumb: avoid anything with "VEGAN" in all-caps. Basically avoid anything directly marketed towards vegans. Vegan Oreos? Nope, just buy regular oreos, and look through the labels for non-vegan ingredients.

And the list goes on and on.

If anything veganism can be way cheaper if you know where to look (shouldn't be too hard).

That doesn't really discredit his point about meat though does it :trollga:

OMG I can completely relate as I'm not vegan myself, and probably will never be a strict one.

I stayed in dorms my freshman year and had to sign up for a (hella expensive) meal plan, so I never went vegan even though I wanted to.

But I'm moving to my own apartment in a couple of months, and since I'll need to buy groceries and whatnot, might as well just go vegan and save me some cash for rent :selena:

Well it doesn’t.

But why would you want to eat something that is so highly processed? How do you create cheese, milk and meat without cheese, milk and meat? With a slew of non-foodsincluding stabilizers, gums, thickeners and highly processed protein extracts. Yummy.
