And less people seem to put up christmas lights than ever before. However, despite the reason, saying Happy Holidays over Merry Christmas is just good business. Saying Happy Holidays is inclusive to everyone, regardless of traditions or religion, whereas Merry Christmas is exclusive to those who celebrate Christmas as a cultural holiday or as a religious holiday. For example, I don't believe in Christianity, but I do celebrate Christmas with my family, and I probably always will, in the same way I'll always celebrate Valentine's Day. If it were up to me, I'd say we should do away with saying anything unless its the day of. We don't say Happy 4th of July or Happy Labor Day the weeks preceding them. When I say it to customers, it's an empty platitude. Companies only want their employees saying it so customers feel happy, so they'll want to come back. I remember reading that currently, around 70-75% of the country is Christian, so in saying Merry Christmas, 3 in 4 people will be included. The fourth person may celebrate cultural Christmas, or they may be of a different religion that has a holy festival in the month of December, like Judaism. In saying, Happy Holidays, the only people who could be offended are staunch atheists who have a problem with holy days being celebrated, and people who feel they aren't being pandered specifically enough. TL;DR So, fine, you're right about political correctness being an annoyance, but Trump is focusing on a divisive aspect of it. My take on this: say whatever you want. Free speech. Your parents don't have to drive you around anymore...you can do it yourself. Every store is already full of Christmas decorations and in about three or four weeks the decorations will start going up in city centers and shopping centers. I'm sure Texas is the same. Now that I'm more awareness of the inclusiveness, I still approve of it. We're not *removing Christmas*, we're simply recognizing that other holidays exist in December (Bodhi Day, Hannakah, Kwanza, etc). The more holidays, the merrier, no? But nooooooooo, white people have to be angry that the spotlight is being shared instead of focusing on one holiday. I don't get it. Say 'Merry Christmas' if you want to. Say 'Happy Holidays' if you want to. Spoiler For fack sake, Christmas wasn't a Christian holiday anyways. Jesus (if he was real) would have been born in the springtime due to hints in the Bible. Christmas was originally a pagan holiday that recognized the winter season. So not only did Christians stole the holiday, but now they're crying as if it belongs to them in the first place. It's not the same as stealing land from the Natives or taking credit from POC/minorities... Oh wait, it is the same. I fell down the stairs once as an actor.
