That's terrible. What would Baden-Powell say?

Who cares?

This seems less like a problem and more people just don't know how to make things exciting for kids :bon:

Girl Scouts, from what commercials I keep seeing, seems to be teaching girls proper business practices. I assumed they camped as well, but I guess I was wrong.

Technically he established the Girl Guides as the female version.

Seventy years later she still had perfect recollection of what happened next: 'Quite suddenly from the other side of the arena a figure started to come, in fact strode, over towards us. We realised that it was Baden-Powell himself.

'We scrambled down the bank where we were sitting... and he came towards us demanding: 'What the dickens are you doing here?'

'Our `patrol leader' said: 'We want to do the same thing as the boys. We want to be girl scouts.' Baden-Powell said: 'That's impossible, this is only for the boys.'

'We thought he was going to send us away but in the end he said: 'I'll think about it.' We went into the arena when it began to rain and then joined the march-past. We were put at the back with some other girls.

Before white people came and ruined everything, women and girls were just as equal survivalists as men.

SILENT HILL

If people aren’t happy that the Boy Scouts do more “cool sh*t” than the Girl Scouts then shouldn’t they try focusing on changing how Girl Scouts work? :oprah:

Research suggests white people appeared in Europe approximately 7,000 years ago.

I think Boy Scouts has already been ruined, frankly. A fair number of troops no longer give out Totin' Chips or practice marksmanship.

Yet they are the only people who decided "You know, we should move out of out country, and spread out ideas through conquering the realm and extraordinary violence and disease."

I'll admit many cultures have an idea of what sexes are supposed to do, but really, the idea that a woman's role is "in the kitchen" is outdated. Everywhere.

Take this from a seasoned Boy Scout (Eagle scout actually, if you know what that is)

There are reeeeally old practices done in the Girl scouts that promote the "traditional family" roles.

The division is all based on that "traditional" women should be in the home while men should be in the woods.

They aren't the same nearly at all like the difference between the two is like the difference between the help and braveheart, it's a lot.

Sometimes, depending on the scoutmaster girls would be allowed to join they'd just lie and say they were another kid and would just get to tag along and do all of the stuff our troop did

My scoutmaster was the bomb, he took in all the kids who got kicked out of other troops for whatever reason. He's mostly the reason I am the man I am today and I thank him every day for being a just moral compass in a world where people who are different or poor don't get recognition. ESPECIALLY in rural Mississippi

You can change that though :selena:

Members on here already said experience is quite different in other countries, so clearly it's not set in stone...

And to be fair I don't see the problem with allowing both boys and girls to partake, but I also don't see the problem with keeping it girls/boys-exclusive... If you have a problem with the program, just change it...

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

GypsyBabe

They need to revamp the whole system. I was a Girl Scout and was pissed later on that all our activities were things like sewing, baking, philanthropies, planting stuff, and selling cookies. This isn’t the 1950s. I was lucky because my dad is a very “outdoorsy” person and taught me how to navigate, track, and everything that had to do with being outside in the wilderness. But I can remember feeling like my brother got to do way more fun/nature/science based things than me.

Personally, I would like it to be more co-ed and focus less on “gender” skills.
