I do see Gaga as the Madonna of the late 00s, but I FEEL (just my opinion) that Madge had a bigger impact on 80s pop than Gaga did on early 10s pop. Let's see how TFM/BTW hold up in the next God knows how long, but I'm already tired of those albums. Currently bopping to Burning Up and Physical Attraction. Only time can tell though. Also this is just an opinion out of many others.

I don't think Madonna's early output was a trendsetter in terms of music. Gaga really was one of the artist that opened the way for EDM.

I was talking about culture as a whole and pushing what's considered taboo. Gaga didn't really open the way to EDM, but she was one of the earlier adapters of the genre yea.

She opened the way for EDM to become more mainstream.

Gaga's impact on culture was very big for sure for using that controversial fashion and everything and I can't compare with Madonna's (which I believe was big too) and after all I don't think there is a 100% objective way to measure them.

Though no one went out and wore meat dresses or anything massive after seeing Gaga doing it. When Like A Virgin became huge, tons of girls started wearing crucifix earings, fingerless gloves, and countless other things. They (Madge and Gaga) can't be compared accurately due to several factors like what was considered new or taboo in their respective eras.

They didn't wore meat dresses because they were basic.

But Gaga really had a massive social impact, not in a way that she made people dressing like her, but because her fashion reversed what was conventional and it shocked the public so she become instantly a figure in the collective memory. On the other hand Madonna started fashion trends because they were somehow edgy and cool but still conventional.

Ziggy

Nope. All those drugs going around? I think she would have tanked from the pressure. They were so much more rampant than today and that's saying something.

I truly think so. She was creative AND had an amazing voice to back up her music at a time when studios couldn't refine vocals enough. Another 80s pop star can't relate...
