Why hip hop so popular

Since the 90s Hip Hop has dominated the music scene. It has had it's small downs(like in the begenin of this decade) but it has exploded again. So why is hip hop always so popular? I think it has to do with the ease, honesty, and creativity the genre allows. Rap is something everyone can do. It doesn't have the technical skill singing requires so it makes it easier for an audience to follow along. There are some rappers much better than others, but rap still has a low entry level. Hip Hop is also a very honest and real genre. Most other genres of music talk about things in life in a very structured and crafted way. On the other hand Hip Hop connects better with many people because rappers tell real stories about their life or share their thoughts without much limits. Finally hip hop allows for a lot of creativity. With Hip Hop any beat, and any type of rhythm or flow is fair game. Other genres are much more specific as far as how they should sound. But Hip Hop literary uses every other genre as a beat for rapping.

I'd rather have SOME forms of hip hop over pop easily. Lots of types of pops irk me. This current trend of trap and mumble rap is a mess, but there are some hidden gems here and there.

I love how versatile it is. And it seems very easy to incorporate hip-hop into other genres (and vice-versa). Maybe that's why it's so popular/impactful. It also has mass appeal which clearly makes it profitable.

‘Hip Hop’

More like some high dudes singing about cars, money and f*cking bitches. Rap or hip hop is nothing compared to what today’s ‘artists’ do.

And today’s ‘hip hop’ is very popular because… I don’t know why honestly. This trend has to stop though.

Hip hop has always been a very politically/socially charged genre of music, much in the way rock/punk was in it's heyday.

It's a very transformative style of music that can be used to cover many topics. And yes, it's fun to turn up too. Everyone dragging it for being about "guns and sex" when pop music really is no different, please come off that. :awkney:

That is a long shot and I think you know it.

That's one line in one song out of 50+ songs

Rap music is about all that way more..

Please. Hip-hop/rap is more than that. You guys are living in the past because it has changed A LOT in the last 10 years.

1-800 (one of the most popular songs of the year) is about suicide prevention. And that's just one example.

Kanye, Drake, J.Cole, Kendrick, Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper and even Post Malone are part of the new age and they're more than guns and violence. Don't be ignorant. It's not a cute look.

the point is, lyrically, no Gaga's songs are not about gang violence. But why would they be, she's a white girl from an upper class family, it'd make no sense.

hip hop is something that is full of abusive languages while Lady Gaga is Pop Star and I am Love the way she sings. However, Not only English Songs, if someone wants to listen to the New Hindi Movies songs full of rap and hip-hop by Raftaar of Hollywood, is really worthwhile listening.

Kii

OT: I think music genres tend to fluctuate in popularity as time goes on and it happens to be that hip hop/rap is the current one at the top. It does help that the general fan base is much more loyal than pop music listeners, so that partially explains why it consistently stays in the market.
