Beyoncé is obviously on another level of Legendary/Iconic. The greatest performer of this generation indeed. Over.

She bursted onto the scene like Gaga did, the difference being in the fact that Lana chose less agressive promotion and tried to market herself as an Internet artist. She chose Internet clicks over radio plays. Lana overshadows Adele in the way that she has the connection with the younger generation, while Adele's demographic is hard to define. Lana has musical, thematic and stylish cohesiveness, her spotify and youtube numbers are crazy and she is global. People may not like her but denying her impact on the pop culture has no point, for she's representing the other side of the digital and SM culture. that's because she connects with literally EVERYONE. Otherwise how do we justify that crazy amount of copies sold? You are describing Lana's first album phase which was pretty amazing and impactful. But after that, what did she do that was revolutionary for her career? I feel like her themes, lyrics and sounds became pretty much boring because it's always the same. And lets be honest, her youtube numbers are not that huge. Gaga bursted onto that scene in a totally different way! Gaga came as a full package and presented herself in a way no other female did before. She was and still is a bomb. Sorry not sorry.
HiddenWeirdo 4,277
Gosh, people in here writing Nicki Minaj What was the impact she made? Her ass shaking in a music video of a nonsense song? Did that change the music industry in a huge and positive way?
Dutch 91,370
I was thinking about making a thread about this too the other day. Gaga happened almost 10 years ago and nobody came close to her. Most of the girls are one hit wonders or one album wonders. Still don't get why people are saying Lorde? Is she that big in the US? Don't get me wrong, I love Lorde, but at the end of the day she only had one huge hit and she's not selling out stadiums, is she? Adele became big at the same time/earlier as Gaga (in Europe at least, I know the US was late as always) so she doesn't count either. At this point the biggest female icons from the past 10 years are: Beyoncé, Adele, Lady Gaga (I really think Gaga is back (no shade) on their level again after the Joanne era) and then there is a huge gab. From the list I would say only Ariana will be able to become a new icon in the future.
Ziggy 11,863
I say Kendrick for what he does in rap. I don't think it's a fair comparison, though. Rap is already a very niche field with its own subculture associated with it unlike pop which has a much higher potential for international crossover appeal. Still, the fact that he really started from very little and worked his way through the rap industry by his talent and vision is something to laud. He both performs and writes well and for the most part has a clear vision for how he wants his albums and performances to be executed. So I say him. In rap, he's a titan. For pop stars, no one. Gaga hit at a point just before anyone could be a one hit wonder. You still could then but now it's even easier. I think Gaga's grit and lyricism and sound makes her a very unique pop star. I mean, nearly 10 years on we still talk about disco sticks because she *did that*. Smart, clever, and so incredibly catchy.

JohnnyVersace 9,023
Tbh none of them are as "iconic" as Gaga. She completely changed the game and they all chased after her coattails for years. Dua Lipa seems to have everyone's attention and I can't figure out why. She's like any other instagram girl tbh. I feel like the next great will come in a few years and be completely different than something before.

Sure she can be considered irrelevant as a person/artist/etc. but her music charted not so bad in Europe and doing extremely well in the UK. In the US she currently has one song in the Top 40 so the "attention" is starting to grow
Lextyr97 19,958
I don't think any of them. Gaga set the bar astronomically high. Almost unbelievably high. I don't think any of the new artists have come even kind of close.
Margaux 137
Lana del Rey and fka twigs. Both are unique and iconic they pull references/get inspired by certain art forms and still make it feel fresh and original Lana is fully living in her own world and caters to people who like that where fka twigs is creating her own world and has the talent, knowledge, and an enigmatic quality to keep you interested and wanting more!
