Voting against it as the US has now done will only give these countries incentive to keep these policies, potentially even enact worse ones, and show that there is no fallout or consequence for the violating and killing of innocent human beings around the world simply because of their sexuality. This is not misleading at all, the US is telling the world this is okay be doing this.
