Actually "white tears" is a term used for white people who always play the victim (when they clearly aren't).

It doesn't mean the person doesn't deserve to have an opinion.

No that's not the point. The point I was trying to make was generalizations, regardless of what the content is, are bad.

You don't like it when I generalized people of color. (Which wasn't even something I agree with. I said it to point out hypocrisy.)

I don't like it when you generalize someone's feelings or opinions and call them white tears.

None of this even matters in relation to the massacre.

 

Plenty of headlines depict white shooters as the evil they are. There was absolutely no reason to bring race into this debate.

You don't get to determine if there was a reason to bring up race or not. Plenty of people have expressed their views on the media's coverage of different types of criminals.

I'm not playing the victim, I pointed out the fallacies with black and white comparisons, without twisting the agenda. From what I've seen, it's a term usually used against a white person who's presenting uncomfortable truths.

And actually, it is used to silence opinion. It's used to make the person in question appear weak, pathetic and unintelligent and to make everyone in the vicinity laugh at them for it. It is used to deflect from the statements they have made that are too uncomfortable to be addressed. And actually, a lot of the time, it's not so much opinion (which is subjective) being silenced as facts being silenced. Some people think that oppressed people should never be challenged, even when they're spouting untruths and exaggerations. I, however, aim to treat everyone the same,  for I believe in true equality. If you speak untruths, I'm calling you out, I don't care who you are. Facts are facts, you can't just clap your hands over your ears and say "la la la" like a child to avoid what you don't want to hear.

Using the phrase "white tears" does generalise all white people, though. You would think that way if the phrase was "black tears," right? If you treat each phrase differently, you're applying a double standards.

Nowhere have I or anyone else here stated that white people's comments and feelings are more important than minorities. I vouch for all voices to be heard. Usually, I'd just respect the right of a minority to say their piece about any issues directly affecting them because I can't relate. However, if they start telling lies and exaggerations, then I have something to say in response. Yet, when I do this, I'm accused of not letting minorities speak and not listening to them. But it's because I've heard them speak and have listened to them that I'm voicing a rebuttal! Recently, some issues that happen to everyone have been re-framed as exclusively black/minority issues and it's justifiably annoying white people who have gone through these things yet are told that they don't. When it came to talking about groups outside yourself, I was taught not to generalise or use big words like "all," "always" and "never" except in the case of undisputed facts. But I've not seen the same respect paid to white people when minorities talk about them. Even though I'm white, I've repeatedly had my feelings on issues that directly affect me (yes, negative things as a white person) shut down because "white people don't go through these things." Telling people what they have and haven't gone through when you don't even know them is unacceptable.

So, basically, what you're saying here is "you, as a white person, have no right to speak about race." But white is a race. This is precisely why racial tensions are so high - we don't allow white people at the table of racial discussion. But seeing as they're apparently the most powerful race (in all situations, allegedly), shouldn't they be the ones that should play a part in this discussion? I mean, as a feminist, I've always made it clear that we have to accept men into gender discussion because they are the ones that hold to key to changing women's oppression, so we need to converse with them and hear their take on things. Nothing can be changed unless everyone, including the most powerful, can put themselves forward in the discussion.

And what is the relevance of your second sentence? I was just left asking: "And...?"

So, basically, what you're saying here is "you, as a white person, have no right to speak about race." But white is a race. Yes, and if white people feel race isn't an issue, there's nothing anyone can do to stop it either. You are free to express your displeasure, however. Free speech and all. But you seem to think that right only flows one way.

Who else do I save them for? Very few people listen. Because they don't like being told the truth. As soon as you are confronted with the truth, you run away like a child. If I'm so wrong, tell me why I'm wrong. It's always a conversation ender when I bring up how I don't accept the white hatred from minorities because I see it as no different to man-hating feminists, who I don't support. Then I say that I'm a female feminist but doesn't think all men are evil, support them and want to listen to them. Because I want to be treated the same, not better. Once I've said that, it just makes anyone who believes "I'm from an oppressed group, therefore, everyone who isn't like me is prejudiced and don't deserve an opinion" look really foolish.
