When she dies they will see the light I disagree a bit about Madonna. I think that she is valued for her influence, but people choose to forget it because she has such a bad attitude. I'm not sure it will change once she's gone. ⚯͛

RAMROD 109,592
IDGI? Mariah, MJ, Whitney and Madonna have always been respected. Maybe you're too young to know, but Mariah was everywhere in the 1990s, she was the business! And same thing goes to MJ, Whitney, and Madge as well. Just because younger generations doesn't appreciate older artists (typical tbh) or people seems to only talk their recent missteps, doesn't mean they are not appreciated. There are plenty more of people who take them dearly to their hearts. They just don't talk about them. These 4 people, with Celine as well, are the only pop artists who can sell their records for 200-250 Millions copies! The only modern pop artist who have reached this kind of achievement is Rihanna. For me, all the talented but underrated artists of any genres fits better into this category. It is one of those, "Oh, their music is really good, where have I been all these times?!!" moments once they died and suddenly got excessive coverage by the media for whatever reasons. It's one of those Van Gogh moment all over again, who only got famous and become legendary, an icon after death. Laceface 2,964
People like Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, J Hud & even Sia in terms of vocals. I guess you could say there are a lot of artists with talent & amazing vocals that are underrated whether all will be valued upon death is unknown. A lot of those mentioned are already very appreciated in life.. Janet probably not so much after the SB?

Ziggy 11,856
In a modern sense, Janelle Monáe. Not only is she a phenomenal singer, dancer and performer, but the fact that so early into her career she started her own record company and has been shepherding other black artists is amazing. Her songs are always very well-written, she's got a good heart, and is a complete boss. She's really such an undervalued act purely because she's not much of a trend follower and does whatever she thinks sounds good. I mostly think her contributions to helping other artists with her own success is one of her best qualities, though. She stumps so hard for them and they're actually good, too! She just doesn't get as much publicity in white media but I think when her obituary drops people will be like, "woah, how did we not know about this girl?" Werk 13,166
Does it have to be American GP? Cause I'm seeing so many people in this thread that are only naming artists known in other countries but not in the US.

Madonna has been pretty tame for the past few months or a few years. I haven't heard anything trashy she's said since the BTW drama but maybe bc i dont pay a lot of attention to her so idk.
