Dunk96 2,526
Silver Linings Playlist 10/10 AND Bradley Cooper.....UNFFFFFFFF!
Guest
Recently saw Silver Linings Playbook - It floored me. It was incredibly heartwarming, hilarious, and had me nearly in tears at one point. Im not big on the last 10 or so minutes, but it was an overall very enjoyable experience. I loved how authentic it felt and how it dealt with the subject matter with respect and honesty and an understanding of and sensitivity to such characters and the family/relationship dynamics. I never read the book but I think something of this nature, when integrating such comic relief within serious situations can easily become a disaster, so props to Russell, as he did vey good work in executing this. But his greatest work was in getting those performances out of the cast, particularly Bradley and Jennifer. Bradley surprised me (as Im sure he did many others), he's excellent in it, showed a great depth and sincerity; De Niro in top shape, and Jennifer was simply terrific. After all the initial hoopla (and me def buying it) I was naturally expecting an AMAZING performance and perhaps to my surprise at little, she surpassed what I expected. The 2 standouts scene from her for me were the De Niro confrontation/monologue scene, and the scene where she realizes someone's arrived - her reaction to it was exquisite. She nails the character. Her instincts, use of body language, facial expressions, are so very effective for an untrained actress. I'm truly looking forward to a great career of performances from her. So anyway I really think this film will age well and find new generations of fans, its very heartwarming and authentic, and connects with people, and hosts a great ensemble with great performances. I can totally see why the actors branch loved it so much. Bradley totally deserves his Oscar nomination, and De Niro of course. Weaver was great with what she's given, but she's not given much to warrant a nomination IMO. Got Les Mis tomorrow and then I'll be done with all contenders :legend:
Guest
^ rating SLP 8.5/10. Saw Les Mis and I couldn't finish it. It's tedious and just too much. Too much to be affecting for me. From what I saw, Jackman and Hathaway had great performances. I really don't see how so many find this enjoyable. Blah. Not even gonna rate it. GreenEyes 859
The good son: 8/10, Very weird movie since you wouldn't expect the cool home alone kid as the main antagonist. And it is pretty f*cked up in some parts, especially the end.
