This vote was cast from Lebanon, but would not have made it in time to count, as the ballott arrived too late in Lebanon. It was now transported by different people 4 500 km and actually (probably) will be counted.

This is a cute story, but for me personally the issue is very serious. I have voted by sending my ballot by mail two times, and both of those times I am not really sure if my vote counted, because the ballotts arrived very late (I send it the day it finally arrived) - and I'm talking about Austria & France! :awkney:

41,1% of the people allowed to vote have done so until 14:00. The votes that were sent by mail are not included in this number. Sadly this means it's down -0,3% compared to the last elections in 2013. However as the votes that were sent by mail are not included - we shall wait for final numbers.

Nice! I think Germany won't have many changes politically like US or UK. Unless Afd surprises us all and gets over 20 % :rip:

FDP-CDU government will be very different on austerity/ECB/Greece than CDU-SPD or CDU-Grünen tho :rip:

I don't think CDU-FDP will happen, though.  It will be either CDU-SPD or CDU-Green-FDP but i think will stick with the CDU-SPD :rip:

Sadly it was slightly higher:  41,4%.

However we shall wait before melting down, because this could have many reasons, no? Maybe it will be down in certain, problematic areas (Sachsen, looking at you)? Also I think there are more and more people voting by mail, so if that's not included yet the final numbers might be different... ? I'm trying to stay optimistic, but was honestly hoping for different numbers.. :gum:

Well, if we look at the US and the UK (Brexit), the far-right overperformed poll numbers by a few points (within the margin of error though). If we look at France, the Netherlands and Austria, far-right underperformed poll numbers. Either it's a Anglophone-European Mainland divide, a pre-Trump and post-Trump divide or a new phenomenon-old phenomenon divide (pollsters have a harder time judging a new phenomenon). The latter one would mean the AfD overperforms polls, the first two options means AfD underperforms. Let's hope for the best.

By the way, I still don't understand how the AfD has creaked up in polls. I thought they were practically dead, hoping they would get just below 5% the beginning of this year when they were sliding down in the polls.

OK, I'm going to make this short, because I'm very sensitive about this topic. :selena:

I don't criticize "the media" lightly, but in my opinion they helped the AfD -again. When the AfD was first founded no one really knew what impact they would have eventually. And still they generated so much press coverage. There are so many parties overall and suddenly the press decided to write daily articles about this one party, while others, who got 15%-20% in actual elections before got like 1 article a month?! And then the AfD still failed to get into the parliament.

You're absolutely right, they were dying slowly and it was such a relief - but then? Press was at it again, releasing multiple articles daily -again-  to discuss this party that was not even inside the parliament. And all those "they are rising in polls", "they are getting stronger again" articles finally impacted in it being again "sort of a movement" and the main television debate featuring only SPD & CDU had nothing better to do than discussing refugees for one ****ing hour. - I give them this: When the press were releasing articles next day about how this debate was a commercial for the AfD without even having them in it, they were right. And I blame those four journalist present and those who decided how the debate was about to go. It was just so incredibly dull with so many dumb questions.. It was rather shocking imo!
