but movies about LGBT issues win so they do raise the awareness. the problem is that Hollywood casts STRAIGHT people to play gay people.

many straight people have won for playing gay.

it's Hollywood's fault in general.

True, but the other year when there were no people of color in these four categories there was an outcry, a hashtag, public announcements, boycotts, all sorts of things, and yet nothing for the LGBT community who is so severely lacking in representation at these awards. I don't just think it's an issue with the awards ceremony, but we need to ave a conversation about it.

Amber Heard
Jodie Foster
Greta Garbo
Alan Cumming
Drew Berrymore
Margaret Cho
Marlene Dietrich
Megan Fox
Angelina Jolie
Debbie Harry
Lady Gaga
Aubrey Plaza
Michelle Rodriguez
Kristen Stewart
Evan Rachel Wood
Ezra Miller
Chaz Bono
Laverne Cox

There are (and were as some of those names are no longer under the living) plenty of LGBT people acting in Hollywood.

Nobody is saying "Give them an award, they're gay!". People are saying "You are looking past the quality of work they have delivered just because they are gay, and it's unfair."

what im shook at some of these who are LGBT

there's literally nothing to it since nobody really gave it any attention so i just posted the video the thread was about ^ :selena:

it's really worth a watch imo and i think it can add some discussion to this topic because it explains hollywood's relationship with homosexuality over the decades

you do know that POC is much bigger than LGBT representation right?

No it's not. Representation is representation. The LGBT community is MASSIVE. Just like the black community, just like the asian community just like other communities, and we deserve recognition for our work just like every other community gets.

I'm seeing a lot of 'do they deserve' and 'are they deserving' in this thread and it's its so stupid. YES THEY DESERVE. If Jared Leto, JARED LETO ( a terrible actor) can win an oscar for playing a trans person then a trans person deserves to be nominated for simply playing someone like them-self.

For some reason people seem to think LGBT people have to do something above what straight people do in order  to deserve a nomination or oscar win.

Not really like this tho, you have to be able to play someone you're not, if you're just playing yourself is not that much talent neither :poot:

A lot of times, when an actor comes out as a member of the LGBT community, people have a hard time seeing them play straight role, unless the actor was already well established. I don't remember which actor said it so don't quote me, but someone said that they wanted to keep as much privacy as possible so that they would be beleivable in their characters. For me that's the main problem. but there are a lot of factors that play into it, so it's hard to say. Half of Hollywood is secretly gay in private but straight for the cameras so :reductive:

It's an awards show, which are slowly, going the way of the dodo. Their opinions don't matter anymore.

Plus a lot of you argument loses water when there have been many straight characters played by Gay actors, though that's on television mostly.

What? "Because a terrible straight actor won a terrible LGBT actor has to win too" ok :awkney:

If LGBT people are a small minority then there isn't going to be some huge number nominated
