The Witness Tour looks amazing

The production certainly looks great, but I really don't like tours that rely too heavily on huge props and special effects, it's like the artist waiting for everything else to do the job for him/her.

I prefer artists who interact with the lights, the dancers, the props. I've seen Selena Gomez live, while her dancers were pretty intense, Selena doesn't really do the same choreo as her dancers did, she doesn't complement the lights, dancing, props.

And I think this is one of the flaws present in Katy's performances. She used to really deliver with her Roar and Dark Horse performances, ever since Bon Appetit and Swish Swish, something is just off.

I liked her Chained to the Rhythm performances tho.

she's got the budget but does she have the talent and musicianship to back it up? :oprah:

Probably not but it's not relevant really. 80% of our current pop stars don't really have the talent for their budget but people go to a Katy Perry show for the atmosphere and performance or because they feel an emotional connection to her/her music. Nothing wrong with that, music is there for enjoyment, the world is s*** enough, we all need some light-hearted entertainment. :)

I wrote a comment above that's almost entirely opposite of your point. The biggest artists know how to complement their dancers, choreography, lighting, props and those are deemed the most successful and powerful performers. I'd like to think that Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Gaga and Michael Jackson as belonging to that category. I would have included Britney Spears if she sang live but unfortunately she didn't. Rihanna just came to my mind and I just realised how she hasn't been using props ever since the Loud Tour. The whole show surrounded Rihanna's charisma and dancing and badassery.

This is why I don't like the newer artists nowadays that rely on computers to make music and can't perform when you put them on a stage.

It really feels lazy for an artist to wait for lighting and props and dancers to do everything for him/her.

I agree with the disconnect on SS and BA but that's not really enough for me to deem her a bad performer. Particularly as you said her previous performances have all delivered. Her tours are fun and those who attend enjoy them which is the point. Nothing more, nothing less :)

The Prismatic World Tour and California Dreams Tour didn't disappoint. They were highly entertaining.

But Katy's on a really high level as a musician, she's not Selena Gomez, she's considered as a peer of artists like Rihanna and Gaga. The teasers released thus far seem like this tour is heavily dependent on comedy and inflated objects, which I think are killing the album.

I'd of course watch the tour in full and give my updated opinion later. :)

I just hope she steps up her stage presence and not rely so heavily on "visual distractions" to compensate...

Same. Some of it looks cool but most of it looks...tacky

Still debating on getting tickets though 'cause most are still dirt cheap :gum:

I'll decide after seeing videos from the first show :diane:

You're stinky

Yeah the comical props and stuff (the oversized inflateable hands) did raise an eyebrow I have to admit but i'll give the benefit of the doubt until I see it because it's hard to judge from these snippets.

In all honesty it wouldn't suprise me if she relies heavily on visuals and lets performance take a back seat this tour because the music hasn't been the most well received but it'll still be a great show for those going i'm sure. Her music seems more mature but her performances have left me wanting a lot more this time around, largely because I can't relate to this emoji/meme thing she's going for. I'm probably too old for this tour's demo but idc, I want a drink, a dance and a laugh ;)

First of all to some of you: HeyGirl.mp3 :awkney:

OT: it does look amazing. I still regret not going to the Prismatic World Tour so I immediately bought Witness World Tour tickets when they came out. I later sold them, because I wasn't really feeling the album. But now Kathryn is hyping the sh!t out of me with these teasers and I might buy tickets again once the tour has started.

Britney is still influential though.  Miley Cyrus' 2013 shedding of her teen bubblegum image was taken right out of Britney's playbook in 2000.

In that regard, Madonna shouldn't be given the credit because Madonna was never a teen pop star.

Also, Janet; While she didn't sing live while dancing most of the time, she was a ridiculous dancer and she might have done both at the same time during her Rhythm Nation Tour in 1990.
