Suicide Groups: New Lady Gaga song sets bad example

Well, I'll probably be shot for this but has anyone here had a suicide in the family? It really cuts to the bone. My brother committed suicide when I was 16 (he was 23) and my mother will never be the same. I am a huge Monster and my mom is my best friend. When I read her the lyrics she got furious. She said Lady Gaga is too important and too influential to be releasing that kind of material. Impressionable youth take high regard to what she says. She thinks LG is too young and if she releases this song and has a string of suicides after (which we all know is possible because look at all the suicides that have taken place already), Lady Gaga is gonna feel terrible. There is some legitimacy to my mother's claim. I for one love Lady Gaga but I merely let her bring joy to my life, not completely rearrange it. Some young teens might. I personally believe that it is freedom of creativity and she is merely sharing a piece of her diary with us. Could it have these negative effects: YES! Should she not release it? I don't know. My mom has always supported Gaga for me and has always been enthusiastic about it. She said if she is going to release music like this, she no longer has any use for her and will not want to hear another thing about her. That will break my heart because I tell my mom everything and Gaga is a hugh part of my life. Pop music makes up about 75% of my music and Gaga is 75% of my pop music. Music is about 50% of my life's pleasures. Nothing Gaga could ever release will make me appreciate the effects she has had on my life any less, however, this very well could be detrimental to society if it is a single. Thoughts?

I totally get what you're saying.

As much as I adore the song, I know there are a LOT of impressionable, young, troubled Gaga fans out there, and I do fear that those people could take the song too literally.

It's definitely a conundrum, and I'm sure she realizes that.

I don't think Lady Gaga should base her career on being a mother to her fans.

The entertainment industry has never been one to be good at parenting, I'll agree with Rihanna on that. Creative integrity is much more important to me, as a fan, than oversensitive suicide organizations taking metaphorical and emotional lyrics literally.

I don't know what to think about the song. When I read the lyrics I was completely taken aback. How much it talks about suicide and all. You can't say you didn't see this coming.

I'm glad she decided to do it this way, hopefully to "test the waters" as this article suggests. I don't think it should be on the album though. There would be too much backlash, especially since her previous album was about empowerment and celebrating yourself.

The media just like to spin **** out of proportion and get everybody talking and get themselves attention. Thing is, gaga herself is probably not affected at all by this due to her media blackout so they're wasting their time bye

My deepest sympathies on hearing about your brothers suicide - I've never experienced a suicide within my close family but I've seen it's effect on a friends family and it really shocked me. I don't think this song promotes or would trigger any one to commit suicide to be honest - the lyrics are from her heart. IF any of her fans for some reason choose to commit suicide (I just can't at it though) - I'd be so surprised if it were because of this song. I doubt she'll release it - it's too deep and negative to be a single and she knows that.

If she doesn't put this song on the album, it would be a complete waste. She does not even say explictly "I WANT/GOING TO KILL MYSELF AND YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME!" It can be interpeted many of ways. Saying that this song will make people kill thsemlves is ridiculus. I agree it shouldnt be a single, but it is a great, heartfelt and amzing song and it deserves to be produced and put on an album.

I root for you. I love you. You, you, you, you.

I think the most laughable part is when they say it "clearly describes the method of suicide," as if people who are considering suicide would listen to this song and go, "Oh! Pills and note! What a brilliant idea! Never thought of that before..."

I have struggled with this for a really long time.... JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT SOMETHING DOES NOT MEAN THEY SUPPORT IT!!!!!! GODDAMN IT! If they knew anything about Lady Gaga they would be well aware that she has talked on the subject of suicide numerous times, often saying that it is an unfortunate choice she doesn't think is ever good. She created the Born This Way Foundation as a way to help people feel accepted as a way to combat teen suicide. LORD IN HEAVEN....

"Party, and bull****"

Exactly! :golfclap:

And people who have such songs written for them and have a creative director make up the "plot" and visuals for a copypasta music video for generic fluff/horrible noise that they call "music" aren't artists, they have no vision, they could care less about the art. They're not the one stirring emotions all across the world (most of those emotions being love and hope and happiness), they don't push the boundaries of the industry and society in general nor do they challenge people's views. They don't revolutionize. Gaga lives and breathes for art, music and innovation - and she is the one doing all the things mentioned above and much, much more.

Well as someone who has actually attempted suicide and seen many of my family members die of it.

Uncle hung himself and my Aunt parked herself on the train tracks and got blasted by the train.

I understand how you feel.

And although it reminded my attempt, I don't think GaGa is in any way glamorizing this or encouraging it, she's bringing awareness and expressing herself. (bad choice of wording there :hor: )

Remember when she first played it she said it's about her most deep and personal thoughts.

She may allude to Diana in here a lot but she never explicitly says her name although Princess Die will be seen as Princess Di by the ignorant.

I agree it should not be a single because of the backlash but I don't think GaGa gives two hoots about what the media thinks anymore. It's all about the fans to her now. Besides ballads don't make it to number one or even 2 unless they promote pyromania. :derpga:

Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.

So, a suicide can happen in a movie, but if a musician writes a song about it, it's not okay?

Makes sense.
