tthen 4,621
As many know, 1996 was supposed to be Mariah's year at the Grammys. She was up for 6 awards (AOTY for Daydream/ROTY for One Sweet Day/female pop vocal performance for Fantasy/female pop vocal album for Daydream/Female R&B vocal for Always Be My Baby/pop collab for One Sweet Day), but left empty handed. Everyone predicted her to sweep most categories (she was even placed in one of the first rows since they expected all those wins), but like I said, she left with nothing. The people who won the categories were: AOTY: Alanis for Jagged Little Pill (my opinion: Alanis deserved it) ROTY: Seal for Kiss from a Rose (my opinion: Mariah or TLC Waterfalls deserved it) Pop collab: The Chieftains/Van Morrison for Have I Told You Lately (my opinion: Mariah or Anita/James Ingram deserved it) Pop Vocal album: Joni Michell for Turbulent Indigo (my opinion: Joni or Annie deserved it) Female R&B: Anita Baker for I Apologize (my opinion: Anita deserved it) Pop vocal performance: Annie Lenox for No More I Love You's (my opinion: Annie deserved it) What are your opinions on this whole thing? Noah 26,933
She deserved to win most of these. She dominated the year in terms of charts, she proved AMAZING vocal agility on her album, she mixed R&B with Pop Music and created a perfect balance. Daydream, for me, is one of the best Albums i've listened to, because it showcases Mariahs talent and versatility as a writer and producer. I can't wait for some shady people who have never heard the Album to drop a shady comment without knowing the album and it's diversity within the next posts, since Daydream is an part of Mariahs legacy, who opened doors for many of their favs. ⟡ ⋆ ˚。⋆🦢⋆ ˚。⋆⟡

That J 12,166
I love Mariah and was a huuuuuge fan that year. However, she was up against the most stiff competition ever. Anita Baker is FIRE and deserved her win. Joni was having a renaissance in her career. Seal had a HUGE hit with Kiss From A Rose. Alanis ....three words...Jagged Little Pill. And Annie's "No More..." was brilliant. The good thing is Mariah lost to the right people. That J 12,166
I always liked Music Box more than Daydream and Butterfly better than both of them! There were just sooooooooo many years where Mariah could do no wrong in my book. The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw

Mirages 20,259
She definitely should have gotten ROTY and Pop Collab - of these two she was 100% robbed! Pop Vocal album should have gone to Annie, Female RnB should have gotten to Mariah she embodies the genre and Daydream is one of the best RnB albums of all time and Always Be My Baby is probably one of the best contemporary RnB examples. AOTY and Pop Vocal performance are debatable and I probably agree with the choices they made. I'm the bitch that's fragile

Babel 41,308
She deserves to have more than 5 Grammys, it's a tragedy. She shattered records with her talent and inspired a whole generation of singers, including Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Gaga.
Thomas P 18,479
I love the album but Jagged Little Pill is light years better I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Didn't Xtina and Bey (as a part of DC) show up just a few years after Vision of Love? Correct me if I'm wrong, but not sure how that's enough time to be influential
