Well, it was to be expected. Big, commercially successful name comes back after a long break = instant #1. If it was from anyone else or even wasn't the lead single, I doubt it would have reached the top. Its polarising reception and the amount of dislikes its amounted in just a week is astonishing, so it's pure name recognition that has got her there. But can she keep on having hits from this era? It's rare to have back-to-back success these days and the success of the lead single can lead to false expectations. Look at Prism. And because so many people bought the last album, they don't bother buying the follow-up singles as they'll be buying the entire album when it comes out anyway. And they'll also buy this new album immediately, without question, so second week sales can take a drop and the album overall won't have the same chart longevity. It's going to be a true test to see how she gets through this.

But yeah, her first UK #1 at long last...but only because she finally caved in and put her music on Spotify. Her refusal to do this in the past is what resulted in her sacrificing at least 2 potential UK #1's with 1989 because she had zero streams to account for and her sales weren't high enough to get to the top. For such a praised businesswoman, she sure has made quite a few bad choices until now. LWYMMD only sold about 30k in pure sales in the UK in its debut week. Quite embarrassing for a #1 song and in the old days, before streaming counted, she might not have got it.
