How is it a flop? It's one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2017, sales are not the only thing that matters to call an album a flop!

Teams was a x3 Platinum top5 hit and  Pure Heroine sold great.

Not great for a debut. I'd end this here. Honestly, I'm so sleepy, I can't type.

For a debut album? pfff Compare ...Baby One More Time's, The Fame's sales to this.

I didn't say that sis

Taylor's debut was not successful at all, doesn't mean that she isn't slaying our faves rn.

Like...tf does that have to with my post :awkney:

Maybe not in the same ballpark musically, but look at Bjork. She never had a hit album, yet her critical acclaim overshadowed her obvious lack of commercial success and she managed to have a legacy many pop girls could only dream of having.

Maybe, just maybe the same could happen to Lorde.

Lol Pure Heroine wasn't a commercial album and where is it written that debut albums need to be The Fame level successful .

Green Light flopped. Don't hear her on the radio(thank god). Melonoma hasn't even gone gold yet in the states. So..definitely a flop era.

She was essentially a one hit wonder until now. Royals was the only hit she'd had in the grand scheme of things. So, a lesser selling album is completely expected especially considering she took nearly 4 years to follow up her debut. Plus, music sales are in the pits right now, so yeah. She was never going to be a massive star having hit after hit and selling out stadiums. That's not what she wants. I don't think the album is necessarily a flop because it's selling as well as you could hope for considering the type of album it is. I mean, I consider Lana to be going through some level of a comeback right now even though she still can't get hits merely because she's selling more than her last album, her new work is getting more views and likes than normal and she's about to start a proper world tour which is only her second ever tour despite 4 albums. So, Lorde's the kind of artist I put into that category. She's doing great for an artist of her kind, that's all.

If Melodrama is a flop era then whatever eras Fifth Harmony, Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, etc. have been serving are LAUGHABLE. :sharon::sharon::sharon:

Also, if this is her flop era then we are in for the album of the DECADE with her next one. That is all.

Well, apart from Justin (don't know why you included him, as he's huge right now), those acts don't really prove your point because Chainsmokers have sold more copies of their new album than Lorde has, have had bigger hits with it and are currently doing an arena tour with it and FH's sales certainly are laughable and much worse than Lorde's right now and no one was debating that.

First of all, she was never "mainstream". She released her own music and it got really big. Back then, the world went for it. But it wasn't a mainstream sound, it happened. For an artist like Lorde, it happens once in a lifetime. Royals was her Wuthering Heights.

Today, Melodrama is one of the best albums of 2017 and acclaimed by pretty much everyone. Which automatically makes it not a flop. This is one of those cases where sales don't really matter, because the album is more critically acclaimed than most 2017 albums altogether by every major outlet. For a more alternative pop star, she has enough attention.

I think Green Light went gold

I was thinking of pure sales. Going Gold isnt hard. Even PI is closer to Platinum than it is to Gold as of late.
