It's a process and it can often be challenging, especially one's love life. So, the chorus acts as a rallying cry to stay strong during this lifelong adventure and follow the "highway unicorn." I see the highway unicorn as a manifestation of one's fantasies, dreams, and ideal scenarios. So, as you go through life until you die (dieeeee, dieeeee, dieeee), the highway unicorn acts as a beacon of hope to people struggling with loneliness and a lack of compassion. While the song doesn't promise you'll find love, it encourages you to always search for that source of love in your life. Furthermore, this song has even more meaning when you contextualise its imagery. The unicorn is an animal of fantasy, a part of a utopia. Additionally, the protagonist of the song has a "rainbow syrup in her heart that she bleeds." This bolsters the idea of fantasy, but also introduces the idea of sexual equality in love. Gaga confirms this by saying, "she don't care if your papers or your love is the law." Thus, it's a bit of a rebellion to societal norms as well. It was a long, sometimes lonely road through life without a significant other - or one that came and went. Love is tough and sometimes, and I think it did for Gaga, takes a long time to find that happy place (she went from long relationship with Luc to long relationship with Taylor, who I'm sure she both thought at first she'd be with forever, but now we see where she is on that journey).
