I just watched most performances and I really don't want to be mean but it's one of the most boring award shows I've ever seen. The artists were dull and seemed exhausted and didn't want to be there, the interviews were tragic, artists overreact (Fifth Harmony) to winning just a Best Pop Video (I can't it's like they worship the VMAs as the highest honour in music when the Grammys exist, they cried, they let everyone from the group speak, their reaction was just so dramatic Gucci Mane seemed like he wanted the acceptance speech to end ASAP) Also Cardi B's reaction to getting a #3 song on Hot 100, I mean yes it's an achievement, but she said she would even settle for a #1 for only one week, it's not very ambitious, isn't it? Ed Sheeran seemed like he was judging every performance in the celebrity cam. Pink delivered a decent performance but not good enough for Vanguard Award, also the tragic outfit tho. Pink obviously did not live up to the standards Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears set. Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran basically delivered the exact same performance, except that Shawn's voice cracked so much it sounded like there's a peanut stuck in his throat. Katy Perry gave a decent performance but still it's such a downgrade from her Roar and Firework legacy. Miley Cyrus had good vocals but the overall performance wasn't outstanding either. Demi gave Cool for the Summer 2.0 via livestream, again good vocals but she didn't exude A-list vibes. Only Kendrick Lamar seemed like a real star in that ceremony. Bebe Rexha had a good dress and hairstyle, she actually seemed like a real star there. Also the lack of masculinity in the award ceremony made it worse imo. I think the VMAs are too feminine to be a universal thing. It's packed with women with bright jewels and mediocre talent and overreactions to tiny achievements and no ambitions. Bring back Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Eminem, Rihanna, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons. Miley was the only one who had a completely original concept for her performance tonight.
