People acting like her referencing & killing her "old selves" is a revolutionary new idea is making me cringe :laughga:

Britney toyed with the idea of the "death" of her old self in 2004 and 2007 and then finally executed it in 2011 in Hold it Against Me.

Beyonce referenced her past iconic looks in her 2013 super bowl ad.

Gaga did it at the 2013 VMAs, and admitted she had originally planned to have lookalikes in her iconic outfits walk the red carpet. Plus how many times has Gaga referenced death and rebirth in her work? The GUY video is literally about death and rebirth, MTN is metaphorically about rebirth.. she shoots her self in John Wayne, she shoots her reflection in the FAME fragrance ad. She's "reborn" in a sense in Paparazzi.

Katy's teasers for Roar were literally about the death of the Teenage Dream character.

Miley was wearing RIP Hannah Montana shirts in 2013.

Taylor executed the idea in a cool way but the idea is literally anything but original :emma: I just had to say this

People might have "toyed" with the idea before, but none of them executed the idea the way that Taylor did. Period.

Wow, this is baaaad. I like the song, hate the video. What a mess, too much going on to take in in one sitting, just utter nonsense imagery, all assaulting you at 100 miles an hour. I don't think she pulls off the zombie thing either. The final scene with all the alter egos talking it out is just...she doesn't pull it off like she thinks she does. When we asked her to be honest and self-depracting, we didn't mean like this. It's just proof that she doesn't know how to truly make fun of herself. It's so obvious what she's doing now with this whole "dead reputation" thing and I hope not everyone falls for it as it's her most transparent money grab yet. I hoped it would have more dislikes by this time but I'm sure they'll come. 200k+ in less than a day is promising. Harsh, you say? Well, if she can be nasty, so can I. But on a side note...damn, she looks hot. Love the biker look the best. And I never thought I'd see the day where I'd see Taylor latexed-up, domanatrix style. She's always struggled with natural sexiness, but she's getting there.

But as for the references - I don't get the leopard print coat ego. Where did Taylor ever dress like that? Was it actually a representation of Kim because she looked like a typical vapid LA celebrity and she talked at the end about "getting receipts, gonna edit this later" in that vocal fry way that Kim talks? And I'd like to know who she's referring to with that swing scene as the only celebrity who utitlised a cage in a music video was Sia (maybe Miley, back in the day). But I'm still wondering if that line relates to Beyonce. I certainly support the idea that the whole fishnet look is a Beyonce reference especially now I realise that the house she's performing in looks an awful lot like the one Beyonce used for her Mrs Carter tour promo, where she's dressed like a 16th century queen. All very shady.

I.......didn't like it. I feel someone like Britney or Madonna, (ya know, Icons) have been around long enough and have earned the right to make such a bold statement song and video like this. I feel with Taylor it feels just calculated and forced. It doesn't feel empowering it just all feels petty to me. I just want her to grow the **** up at this point.

This article sums up perfectly how I feel about this. https://www.google.com/amp/amp.usatoday.com/story/607805001/

It deserves an award. Taylor is not playing anymore. She always shuts down the haters. It's so going to be #1 this week.
