E24187 615
This is building off the other thread but how do big touring artists prevent scalping? I think it can't be prevented to a certain degree, so how does it get managed?
MANiDONTCURE 30
Through credit card entry. Basically for seats that are going to be in demand (floor seats, GA, occasionally 1st level seats) whoever purchases them has to show the credit card they purchased the tickets with, along with their ID at the ticket gates. The tickets are basically on the buyers credit card. Scalpers have found a way around this though. It still does help a bit.

Nicole 1,809
It needs to be regulated. Simple. Ticketing agencies need to cancel tickets that are being sold over face value on re-selling sites and put them back on the original site (ticketmaster/ticketek etc). The problem is i'm pretty sure someone told me once that Ticketmaster allocates a % of tickets to re-selling sites and profits from it? I think that's terrible. Also credit card entry, although I don't think that's entirely fair especially for younger people who may use their parent's credit card, or when the credit card holder genuinely cannot go. I think a photocopy of the credit card should suffice, I don't think scalpers would want to be sending a photocopy of their card to dozens of people. Stan Is My Name 453
foot note: the Joeysworltour thread about scalping should be taken down asap, how dare you take the opportunity of a lifetime from a lil monster? Ban him Although seriously it's lame to scalp. Haroon is coming to kill me D:

They can still cancel the tickets from stubhub, viagogo, craigslist etc. If they're still desperate to make revenue, make it a rule that it cannot be sold for over 10% of the face value. Cancel tickets that attempt to sell above that price. It's simple, but money rules all apparently.
ChicaSkas 23,332
Be very, very careful. I got lucky the original purchaser was honest enough to help me. If at all possible, get certified legit tickets from ticketmaster or an authorized ticketmaster reseller. I wouldn't wish the nightmare of being told my tickets were fake on anyone. I was a sobbing MESS in the VIP line in Inglewood when the VIP manager told me my $3,000+ backstage experience ticket was a fake and that I had bought it from a "scalper" website. Thank God the original purchaser of the ticket came through with a text of his driver's license so that I could enter. She admonished me to never ever buy from a scalper website and to only buy from Ticketmaster. I insisted I had bought it from an authorized reseller, that Ticketmaster redirected me to Vivid Seats. She argued they never would have done that. We ended up agreeing to disagree. I ended up wanting to kiss the carpet in VIP that i was even there after that soul-shattering fiasco.
