Did 'Purposeful Pop' Kill the Witness Era?

1) You're right, this isn't "purposeful pop" at all.  Gaga made purposeful pop with Joanne without having to label the album as that.

2) Sonically, Chained to the Rhythm sounds NOTHING like the rest of the album and it really doesn't represent it.

3) Witness has some of the worst lyrics I've EVER heard in music and I really wish I was exaggerating.

4) However, the production value on the album is fantastic in my opinion and is Witness's only saving grace.

Whispering

She doesn't have Dr. Luke and Bonnie writing hits for her anymore. She lost her little girl fans. The album wasn't good.

I used to think this about the song before the video was released.

Anyways songs can have multiple meanings.

Ok show me the multiple meanings within the lyrics. And don't use the music video as reference.

I don't have to prove you anything. :awkney: It's just the idea of the song which comes from hearing it, I don't have to analise its lyrics.

You don't have to but you can't really tell people that a song has multiple interpretations but not be able to provide any evidence of that.

I explained on my first post at pag 1, honey. :neyde: Multiple meanings stand for the sexual meaning and the alternate meaning which I talked about.

But where else does she allude to the public seeing her as "food."

Idk, your alternate message is more something individual people see in the song rather than what the artist envisioned.

DWUW at first listen is a sex song but there are lyrics that allude to the second meaning of the song.... Bon Appetite does not do this (or does it very poorly).

I still see my interpretation for the song valid (I don't need explicit lyrics because it's just a perspective).

DWUW can be a sexual invitation, or can be talking about the media, rumors, a friendship, being stubborn). Gaga herself listed some meanings for DWUW in that Track by Track commentary.

I view Million Reasons as a song about someone talking to themselves about not committing suicide. Sure, this is my interpretation but that does not mean it was Gaga's vision of the song.

Thats what I'm saying about Bon Appetit :poot:

My view was a metaphorical kind of view (food = sex vs food = being a star) when yours is a explicit one because you just added one extra detail to the original meaning. :reductive:

:sharon:

trust, that metaphor isn't that unique, girl.

Anyway, at the end of the day Katy flopped because of single choices. Whether they were "metaphorical" or not.

Until Witness, her single choices were quite perfect, which is one reason for her massive success in my opinion.

Stopped reading here.

PRISM had really bad single choices. Unconditionally flopped, Birthday flopped & This Is How We Do also flopped.

After those two underwhelming singles (Birthday & This Is How We Do), the GP just gave up on her.

Like you said, Rise just killed the little hype she had left.

Along with the valid points about song choices, I do think the GP reacted negatively to her hair change because, let's be real, the GP can be petty sometimes and people were comparing it to Miley Cyrus  too much (including Katy herself lmao). Cause you know, women in the industry can't have similar hair at all.
