They've wanted them removed for years, decades...just like they've wanted the confederate flag taken down. It takes certain events and certain environments to bring issues to the forefront of public consciousness on a large scale. That's when change can occur. The voices weren't "loud enough", so to speak, until now.

Actually, Trump and the nazis are creating a backlash. They are creating the opposite of what they are hoping to accomplish, because of push back from people who don't accept white supremacy.
