Jesus, does she want to get a heavily disliked video or something? In the past, artists actually tried to create a good music video, something really people-pleasing, they shied away from anything offensive or corny or copying so that they'd get a really good approval ratio. Gaga was one of the very first artists in the Vevo era to actually dare to make something a bit more edgy that actually ran the risk of getting dislikes (Bad Romance, Telephone, Alejandro, BTW, Judas, DWUW before she decided even that went a bit too far) but even she realised after a while that this wasn't the way to go. The fact she decided against putting out the DWUW video confirmed this. She realised it would likely become her most disliked video (BR is heading towards 300k as it is and that's more than enough) and that it just wasn't worth all the hate and adding more fuel on the fire of her tarnished reputation. But Katy's business brain just doesn't seem to have been switched on regarding this concept since Prism. She created the tacky DH video which is her most disliked of all time, then she made the cringe-tastic Birthday and This Is How We Do videos (the latter's her #5 most disliked video) and she hit her crowning glory with the sexist, objectifying and borderline psychotic BA video, which is her third most disliked video (and the one's above it took 3 years to get to their dislikes). Now she's making another cheesy concept video, complete with the tired trope of celebrity cameos. Did she not learn that despite such a video resulting in lots of views and likes (Bad Blood, Bitch I'm Madonna) and almost certainly results in one of your biggest, most talked about, iconic videos of all time, it always inevitably comes with the downside of a heap of dislikes? Is it really worth it? And owning the video as "the biggest mess in history" doesn't mean you get a pass for satire. It doesn't even matter if it's a send-up of Taylor's squad idea. The public in general has already made up its mind about whose side it's on and that's Taylor's, so making fun of her isn't going to change Katy's fortunes.

That's because Katy's team was predicting that this era was going to be another big hit for her, so they've got to use the money that they'd invested into her era before it had even got started. This is Katy Perry, who's never flopped until now, so they're not going to just let her sign out after the second single flopped. They're treating it as just a blip and are ready to move on with the next one, hoping that it'll rectify the last one's bad performance. Also, she has a world tour planned that doesn't end until late 2018 and Katy herself even said that she's planned this era to be just under 2 years long. So, she can't just stop promoting and trying after one flop single. She'll never sell tour tickets if she's not promoting the music and igniting interest, so she and her team have no choice but to keep going. But be prepared for the possibility of them pulling the plug if Swish Swish doesn't take off. Usually, an artist gets 2 chances, tops, and then the label's like: "We're losing too much money, we've got to move on." But a lot of artists aren't even given the opportunity of 2 chances. Interscope stopped promoting BTW after MTN flopped, even though all the previous singles had been top ten hits in the US. One wrong move and it was game over. And it was even harsher for AP - her management gave up on her after she failed to put out DWUW and she had to fund the third and final music video all by herself and the era definitely ended after that. I don't think her team even expected AP to be massive. And now we're in a stage where we only have 2 singles from Joanne and JW is like a promo video at this point. I miss the days when we had 5-single album eras from Gaga. Gaga didn't give up on AP. Her team forced her to. She had so many ideas for that album and they wouldn't let her do them, though whether it was due to money reasons or because they thought the public wouldn't be interested, we don't know. But Gaga loved that album and would have happily kept releasing stuff from it, if she was just allowed to.

That's awesome! I never looked at that way, but yeah, it's so true. Perhaps the only ones for whom this wasn't the case was I Kissed A Girl, Teenage Dream, Firework, The One That Got Away and Part Of Me. Even Thinking of You was set in the fantasy land of the retro, rose-tinted 40's. All the videos from Prism definitely had this trope and all the ones from Witness have been like that so far. No wonder her music has been so beloved by kids and teens and they made up the majority of her fanbase. Her ballads are the only videos that stand a chance of being the least bit mature. It's no wonder she struggles to hold down a relationship - the men realise she's a teenager in a grown woman's body. Being a divorcee in your 30's and still acting like a teenager trying to be cool is not a good look.

it's not that serious, chill :air:

+HBTB and L4L

Also y u so pressed? It's just a music video :smh:

Granted, Lana's videos from her last few albums haven't exactly been eventful (though I love HBTB and L4L) but it's all a matter of opinion. She just goes for a more understated feel, and some people like it, some don't. At most, you'd call these videos boring, not bad. Creating a boring video is one thing, creating a bad one is unacceptable. Lana knows how to create good music videos, hence why her most disliked video is only in the 50k range. Katy on the other hand...she's just touched the 800k dislike mark for DH...and her second most disliked is over 500k...and her third most disliked is heading towards 500k...you get the picture. You'd think she'd start to learn.

How did you have time to write all that :bon:

I don't. It takes up so much precious time. But I always have an insatiable urge to write down everything that's in my head. I just can't help myself. :toofunny:

It is pretty serious when you look at the stats. It doesn't reflect well on her career. Katy has become one of those artists who has videos that its become cool to dislike, right up there with Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj. It's no wonder that all those artists have struggled for credibility throughout their careers and largely considered a joke by many, no matter how many hits they get or re-inventions they go through. Katy's list of top 5 most disliked videos is shameful. Her #5 one has over 200k (and boy, is it going to be pushed down by Swish Swish). I mean, Gaga's most disliked video is still only around the 290k mark. Katy needs to start upping her game if she wants more respect for her videos.

I don't wanna be mean, but who are all the "famous" people she has in the video?

I'm the same - so many famous people featured in such videos have such a niche audience. And even though I may be aware of all these shows like Glee and Stranger Things, I've never watched them. These artists seem to assume that we know and care about all these people. And of course, they're always American celebrities. So many international fans won't have a clue what the big deal's all about.

original?

I think they're referring to the lyric video with Gretchen (that Brazilian woman in all those memes) in it.
