Can someone enlighten me? I'm uneducated on this matter. If her father is black it means that she's of mixed race right? And even though she looks white she probably grew up with a black family with black cultural values. But at the same time she will never suffer oppression like a black person does, even though half her family goes through that **** and she suffers through them.

I'm confused, I don't know what to think of it.

She looks causasian, and people will see her as caucasian. She also benefits from white privilege. So, no. Even though black heritage is in your blood, you are still a white person, Halsey.

So if you're light skinned you're not black enough to be considered one?

To me, it's like ok you have some black heritage in your dna, but you look white, you act white, yet you put on a black woman identity on for... idk what her intent is tbh

it's kinda like when other white people go " I'm 30% german and 15% cherokee so that means I'm..." no, you're white, and you privilege from your whiteness.

I mean she's kind of got a point. She is a person of colour even if she looks white. Mixed kids have it hard, cut her some slack.

Her father is black, it's not as if it was generations ago like you're trying to imply. Ignorance.

I don't see anything wrong with Halsey identifying as a person of color. Blackness isn't simply the tone of your skin ...

Mariah considers herself black too. It wasn't until later in her career -1996- that she could embrace the culture that she grew up with.

yall are so stupid. her fathers black mate, shes mixed, just bcuz shes light skinned doesnt give YOU the right to tell HER shes NOT black. like who tf r u lmao? I never got it when people said mixed kids have it hard, now I understand. cut her some ****ing slack and let her live her life

She has a black parent, she can call herself black if she wants to, nothing wrong with that. You cant take that away from her Just cuz shes lightskinned. get some brains. the ignorance in this thread is baffling

I'm Indian and have European ancestry, my mom is white as paper, but she'll have a few ****ing words with you if you tell her she's not Indian cuz she looks white like stop being ignorant and delusional

I don't really understand the hate. She is 50% black and doesn't have "stereotypical" features. You can't be mad at her because that's just genetics.

I'm 100% Mexican, but my skin is white as paper and I'm built like a stick (no "latina curves"). Most people don't believe me and think I'm white or asian. :selena: & Honestly I have experienced judgement/rudeness from people of my own race and others b/c I don't look a certain way and that I'm not "mexican enough."

Halsey may be extra, but you can't be mad at her b/c she looks white. She was born that way

I think it's just the wording that makes it seem like a messy issue especially when OP referred it to Rachel Dolezal. The thing is Halsey is definitely half Black her father is black, unlike Rachel who is completely delusional.

Halsey was just happened to be born with more Caucasian features so clearly everyone assumes she is a white woman, but she still has her father's family to show she is also black. So Halsey isn't wrong she could equally consider herself a black woman as much as she could also consider herself a white woman. Zendaya is biracial woman too but would everyone on this site consider her a white woman or is everyone on this site just so pressed at Halsey that they are using it as a derogatory remark :oprah:
