Sadly, this is not true unless done in mass. I've written multiple correspondences to my representatives on the state and national level, and they only give me a generic response back. Action is only cited by a big enough group. ANTIFA is the somewhat chaotic but beneficial realization of that fact.
babs 5,093
This is a touchy subject because we're basically playing with the "eye for an eye" idea here. I don't agree with destruction of property unless there is need for retaliation, which I think Antifas should be more conscious about, but then again white supremacist and nazis are the worst. I don't agree with extremism nor reckless vandalism, but hey these people have suffered enough so one has to understand why they're so angry, their people are literally being murdered without compassion. I just think they need some political tweaking in order to make their reputation a more reliable one. if only white americans knew how dumb they look to the rest of the world I don't mean to say racism is not everywhere in the globe, but the things one sees here regarding race are despicable. Negativity and hate aren't always the same thing. The problem here is that ANTIFA wouldn't exist if the USA didn't continue to tolerate racist, homophobic, etc behavior. A solution to get rid of ANTIFA is to get rid of those other rhetorics. Another problem, not something you addressed, is that people seem to want to bring ANTIFA up because it'll make them feel better that there are problems on "many sides". However, I don't want to compare them. Are we really going to compare a history of racism, institutionalized hate in our social, political and economical state vs people who stand against that by mere violence of destruction of property? I just feel uncomfortable comparing the two even though both have/should have criminal consequences. NOT defending either. Furthermore, the discussion cannot be about how the groups of the same. They aren't. They can't be judged the same. They can't be connected in ideology. They can't be considered the same through their goals. I do have a problem with them though. Because they're taking away the discussion of what we need to do about KKK members. And instead we're now talking about how everyone is the same. That is not the case. The problem is that people are seeking to find an issue on both sides and making it seem like ANTIFA is actually going to influence people like the KKK and actual racism, homophobia. ANTIFA is a short term goal group. They don't operate like the KKK/Nazis. and I wish people could learn to analyze that. Yes, we should denounce both groups. But let's stop acting as if both have power. The KKK has power and will be denounced by half the population. The ANTIFA don't and will be denounced by almost everyone because many think that destroying a car is worse that institutionalized racism. One is visual and can be blasted on Instagram while the other has been hiding in the shadows for centuries and continues to do real harm. I didn't compare, I just gave them as an example when people are joining a violent group only for violent and not for ideology and since ISIS is a very extreme group, I found it a good example. there's a huge difference between example and comparison and here it was just example, but I could give the name of any other violent group in the world and the reply would be the same.. ANTIFA wouldn't exist, maybe, but those people would form another group with another left ideology, just for the sake of breaking glasses and burning trash bins.. it's an impulse and they just found a good excuse to do it and to do it with other people, a group is stronger than a single person and it's also more "fun".. The ideoligy of the left is not violent and when there's a group like this, it's giving a warning, it's shocking, so of course many left people here and outside of this forum are against it and realizing that there is violent even among us in the left.. so it's not the fact that it's in "all the sides" it's just realization that there's a problem inside us and we want to fix it unlike the right wing that want to embrace it because "violent is power"... Destruction of property maybe is not homophobic and racist but it's hurting the same, at the end, you hurt people, sometimes you just burnt the shop of a transgender that all her life had to work as a prostitute and be raped everyday just so she can live her life but finally she opened this shop and now she lives well.. but you just burnt her hope and achievement.. One thing is the same, they hurt people without caring who they are hurting.. I think you give too much credit to people and that's a problem because 80% of the people in this group or in the supremacist group are there just to be there, just to have an opportunity to break a glass or to do the nazi salute, not because this is what they believe in but because they have an opportunity to do something "forbidden"... just like when you forbid something from a kid but they do it when you're not at home.. Another big problem that the average people, those who jump from left to right and right to left, depends on who is the candidate and what are the latest threat on the US, those people see this group now and saying "the left is nuts, Trump is right" so instead of changing people's minds and make them with us, this group is scaring them away to Trump and makes them say that the nazi whites and supremacists are right.. - and this is the biggest problem! All of them. The point is that they destroy cars randomly so 1 car out of 5 can be a car of a LGBT or POC, so the effect is that you harm them anyway, maybe not by words or discriminating laws, but you just destroyed something that they worked for it and maybe, just maybe, they had to live sht until the moment they bought this car.. You know why, the left is overprotecting the freedom of speech, so this is why the KKK still active, you can't protect something that 1% of it hurts you, you need to limit it so you can eliminate this 1%.. Also, Obama had 8 years to do something against the KKK and he did nothing and this nothing led us to the reality that we live today.. so if we need to complain to someone is to him.. he was suppose to be the leader of POC and to be the shield against the KKK and racism in general, but he failed. So the complains are really invalid to the situation of ANTIFA when at the end the left is helping to keep the KKK alive because there is a clash in the left ideology.. The KKK and Nazis weren't forming and coming out in public like they are now. They also weren't here only when Obama took office. At his time, social attitudes was what was carrying the silence of these radicals. There was no need for action because what we saw was in influx in social change. But now we should take action. So I don't get why people still need to attack Obama. He can't take on an issue that wasn't an issue during his time. It's Trump's issue now. Direct your anger to him. A broken car is worse than centuries of oppression and institutions? There's bad situations on both sides, but again, we're comparing apples to oranges. And they shouldn't be on the same table when talking about real issues. The ANTIFA is not the reason why the KKK are here. And it's silly to argue about whether or not they have a say to speak or not. They shouldn't. Could you imagine if the KKK rallies started growing from the hundreds to the thousands within the next year? Just because you see it on the TV also doesn't mean they aren't working in their own personal lives to disrupt life.

DeleteMyAccount 11,881
People have been destroying property since forever. The Boston Tea Party for example. Football games. Why have we only started caring now? Property can be replaced no matter the cost or hardships. It's sucks and shouldn't happen, but come on. My house has been subjected to vandalism, but I'm not going to equate that to the KKK. The KKK/white supremacists have a lot more blood on their hands. And God knows how much more they'd have if they continue to revamp there communities in the coming months. 9 KKK rallies are coming up. So let's see what'll happen. Eighteen 5,430
violence and suppression of freedom of speech should be denounced. i don't think the left and the right can be compared though (except maybe that at times both sides can get violent) but in terms of ideology for the most part the left is rooted in facts, science, and inclusion where as the right is rooted in rich people, taking from the poor, exclusion, and fake news.
