CautiousLurker 19,446
To be fair, as much as I appreciate it, this is a very naive sentiment... Thing are rarely simple and the answer is rarely 'just be kind'... Doesn't mean you should resort to violence either, but I'm just saying... this sentiment is very vague... It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

I strongly believe that most of those votes are stan twitter in their feelings because she didn't send a "**** you trump" tweet. Just check the #ThisIsNotUs hashtag trending on twitter. It's overtaken by BeyHive attacking Gaga and calling her an out of touch white woman. Only stan twitter would find a call for peace and kindness something bad. It's tragic. They're just pissed off 'cause the Joanne World Tour slays and Beyoncé's vocals were finally removed from Telephone 📞

GGD can be in-denial all they want, Gaga talking about kindness, spreading it, using a pointless hashtag on Twitter and doing cute tweets here and there don't do anything and they aren't going to do anything at all. yes, it's good to have a good mindset about these things, yes, it's good to spread kindness and all of that jazz. but what impact has it done? is kindness going to work towards Nazis? I don't think it will, Gaga you can do this all you want but what you're doing is fruitless and won't have any change. I hope she sees that at one point. ⚜ Roll Deep ⚜

I get that her intentions are pure but she's coming off as naïve and her privilege is showing. Also the poll itself is sooooo cringeworthy Like, who's letting her tweet this Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you

I guess that was cringeworthy as well? The honest truth is that twitter and celebrities tweeting about something is never going to solve the world's problems, let alone to obvious path to a race war that the US is on. Her tweeting out statistics or a "**** you Trump" wasn't going to do anything either so I don't understand y'all's anger with that statement. Literally, if you want racism to die out in future generations, you have to modify behavior and one of those ways is by changing the way people think about others and themselves. It's a nice sentiment, regardless of outcome or it's individual effectiveness doesn't deserve to drag her down and put her on the same pedestal of other celebrities who have yet to speak up. Former president Obama also posted a tweet about it with a picture of him visiting children of all races in an environment where children like them struggle anyways, you missed the point about what you even quoted me on. What Gaga does doesn't do anything about trying to make racism 'die out' because you simply won't be able to change a Nazi's perspective on anything going on Twitter and trying to spread kindness tweeting #ThisIsNotUS made the situation even worse because this is exactly what America is and always has been and it was in a poor fashion, which is why everybody is upset about it. How is tweeting about this going to do anything, again? When America is built upon white supremacy? The funny part is that literally all the rich white women are tweeting the hashtag ⚜ Roll Deep ⚜
imwoahvicky 4,248
@Edonisagain, no one's denying that racism isn't going to die out or whatever. It's not that it wasn't a nice sentiment for Gaga to do. It's just that when she tries to involve herself in politics, it feels like it ends up where she uses her voice to express very vague opinions and at times when she tries to take initiative (like with the hashtag) it ends up as an irresponsible mess with tons of backfire. The world isn't all daisies and flowers with spreading kindness towards Nazis ⚜ Roll Deep ⚜

How is tweeting about this going to do anything, again? When America is built upon white supremacy? The funny part is that literally all the rich white women are tweeting the hashtag The point is that the message is essentially the same. Being kind, having mutual respect for one another, etc. is an actual viable solution for interpersonal conflict. In the end, children growing up who learn the value of respect and kindness are less likely to subscribe to racist views, supremacist ideology, etc. She isn't wrong at all to insinuate fighting violence with the opposite. Not everyone works in politics or law, tweeting legislature or precedent isn't going to hold as strong of value to a following that's composed mostly of young people in their teens and 20's. And as for that particular hashtag, the majority of people outraged was stan twitter. The Beyhive and the navy, who are the epitome of fake "woke" and supposedly social activists when they spend their entire day keyboard fighting other teens and old people because they feel they have power and influence through their idol's success. The sentiment that "this is not us" seemed to be less about US history and more about the modern contemporary values that so many Americans want to profess for their country. Now, would i have worded things differently? Hell yes. This is a sensitive topic in modern American culture and tweeting out vague positives isn't necessarily the strongest form of political action. That being said, wishing for nonviolence and peaceful intervention is perfectly fine and acceptable. I would've just worded it differently, like you said. The world isn't all daisies and flowers with spreading kindness towards Nazis I just mentioned that and I don't disagree. But at the very least she's trying to provide an accessible solution for the interpersonal conflict that many face on the day to day. Nazi ideology isn't obviously going to die off from flowers and love. That's a given But I don't think the discussion should unfairly turn into a conversation like that hashtag on twitter. Stan bases getting their dig in at her isn't providing anything to the dialogue.
