Miel 15,009
I like the album so far. Some songs (Praying, Woman, Let 'Em Talk) definitely stronger than others, but still overall good. Fantastic lyrics, though. I'm still on the consensus that Praying is one of the best pop songs to come out in 2017. That said, considering the sonic similarities between this album and like, half of Joanne, I'm still bummed her and Gaga didn't collaborate. 2016/17 aka the years of pop girls coming back with that yeehaw or smth. 3 points in and ready for more
StrawberryBlond 14,862
I think this is one of the best albums of the year so I'm so pleased at the good reception it's getting. My absolute favourites are Praying, Rainbow, Hunt You Down, Boogie Feet, Boots and Spaceship. I rated it the way I thought I would. I think this is just the beginning for her and I don't want her to peak too soon. This is her first album where she's truly her own artist and as such, the first go might not be perfect and she's still finding her feet. I didn't want the first shot to be a bit too amazing so she won't let down with the next album and can hopefully get even better. I do wonder if the reviews are ever so slightly overblown because of the knowledge of her ordeal. What kind of monster could give her a one star review after all she's been through? At the same time, there is genuinely good material here, so I can understand why the scores are so high. But at the same time, I just don't know if critics are usually this adoring of work from female artists unless they're mega respected. I mean, Gaga struggled to get beyond average scores for AP and Joanne and those albums were even better than Rainbow. Similarly, Lana Del Rey always struggled to get good reviews and had to build up praise over time. I just wonder how much critics review personalities as opposed to the actual music. I just hope they do genuinely love it and aren't just giving her good reviews because they feel sorry for her. Whatever the reason, it's awesome to see her get the best reviews of her career, it really shows Dr Luke how wrong he was about his decisions for what got her the best reception. If she gets to #1 with this album and gets nominated for MTV awards and Grammys (to win would be awesome, but I'm just being realistic), it really would be the cherry on top and prove how wrong he was.
