NYT journalist just hates Gaga, if she did it raw he would say it's bad anyway..

He just hates the fact that she's still breathing..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I'm a musician so instinctually I would take gaga raw all day and night.

also, she has created a whole universe/mythology/language through the spectacle she orchestrates around Stefani. it is an enterprise that lives separate from her musicianship and obvious it is one she not only excels at but loves. You and I video is a great example. A visually stunning and intriguing piece that seems to have little or no relation to the pickup truck ballad it plays over.

She doesn't really focus on offering the shiniest presentation of any one part of her art as much as she tries to live and breath the committed life. Her choices come from a present minded artist who is always trying to satisfy her own need to feel industrious on a creative plane.

We all have the sense that there must be a way for things to come together for a more mature cohesive vision. Also if her body of work and range of voices wasn't so disjointed we wouldn't each have had a chance to get to know our own favoritega.

We have to see where she ends up bringing her career before we'll have a context in which to place current apparent noncommittal and disonant artistic aspirations- same as it's been from the start. Some know not to hold their breath. She likes choosing how she chooses and everyone else has a hard time predicting that. No one complains that the white album or the beatles in general were too varied in their embrace of contrary aesthetic landscapes. We say they were masters of all trades. We say they were gods.

She will remain in good company if she can keep putting out albums with 5 genres and shows that strike a deep chord in an increasingly diverse audience. If only for a segment of the production. My 2$

How on earth can you dislike ballads...???? Like, you don't like any ballads??

Also for the millionth time Joanne is not a country album whatsoever lol

Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you

It's not like we have to choose :awkney: Gaga is and will always be both of these things. Even in Joanne, which has been her most intimate and simple era she still does theater. I mean, do I have to remind you the faux southern accent during the LA Dive Bar? this b*tch loves theater, and she will blow your face off acoustically at the same time.

I love both.  Won't lie though, I would kill and shell out major coins to see her do an all-acoustic-at-the-piano show at a smaller venue.

I have to say this was THE single most stupid review ive seen.

Why would you discredit someone who is so uniquely multifaceted and talented , and try to pit them in one lane?

You cannot. That is the antithesis of everything Lady Gaga is.

It is foolish for anyone to think she ran off in the woods to sing Jazz classics , or dawn a pink hat and do only acoustic songs just because she turned 30.

She doesnt HAVE to pick a lane. She is the artist.   And to write her off into one genre or style is completely missing the point.

If he paid attention to the show , her theatricallity is anything but a weakness. She was incredibly self aware through the show.... and her stamina is that of a marathon athlete. She pulled back effortlessly and put it on when she wanted to.   Of course this review is probably coming from a white middle aged man who will never be able to do any of those things,  so let that rest with you for a minute.

A CONCEPT: Imagine if she did a dive bar tour at every Joanne Tour stop but sell the tickets with a questionnaire so that no one other than little monsters could get those intimate show tickets.

REALITY

I like both sides of her. I feel like performance-wise, while it's definitely more entertaining to see her be more of a "spectacle" with grander costumes and amazing choreography, I feel like some of her best performances are of her just sitting down at the piano and singing the hell out of a song.

I do definitely enjoy this more "intimate" Gaga that we've gotten with this era, but that doesn't mean that from time to time I miss "Old Gaga".

That being said, we all need to accept the fact that Gaga will change and evolve over time, both as a person and as an artist. She's been establishing that she won't stay the same forever and we just need to learn to accept that. While there will always be remnants of "Old Gaga" splashed throughout, she'll change and grow, and that's just a natural part of life.

I wouldn't be as big fan as I am if she didn't do both. That's what makes her a true artist in my eyes.
