I was re watching 30 Rock again (I love this show), and just noticed something. Read the lines below.

Jenna: Jack, if it would help the show, I would be willing to ''go country''.

Jack: Really?

Liz: ''Go country''? what does that mean?

Jenna: It's a totally legitimate career move, Liz. The best way for a lady to get heat in this industry is to either record a country album or have a lesbian relationship.

This is a comedy show and I know we no need to take all of this serious! So our Americans friends, is it true? Is country a very big genre of America? Is it relatable with JOANNE?

Country is a very popular genre yet is a very popular genre to hate. In terms of audience I think country radio maxes out at around 60M audience levels.

America invented country music

That's like asking if salsa is big in Latin America

It was a joke. I don't think the fact that Gaga released a contry-inspired album captivated the GP attention to her. The transition from electro-dance to soft rock wasn't drastic. C2C was more shocking.

Country is popular in the southern states, but I've always gotten the impression it wasn't as popular outside of those states.
