A show like Sense8, Marco Polo or House of Cards is not cheap.

No wonder the big stations execpt for premium cable like HBO or AMC are only doing a very few big budget shows.

lol I was thinking more like their Marvel shows not being cheap or The Crown. THOSE look mega expensive.

It's just a clickbait news, that debt doesn't mean anything without a context. :gaycat:

20 Billion $ need to get payed somehow tho :emma:

If they are too much in debt (which they are right now let's be real), investors might stop pumping more money in Netflix and then they need to cut expenses where it hurts.

Their new releases have sucked. That zombie bs with what’s her name was awful. And Naomi Watts’ Gypsy seemed promising—and then you realize that the show is literally going nowhere. Grace & Frankie and House of Cards are the only decent shows Netflix produces.

Sense8 got essentially cancelled because it was so expensive to produce :nails:

They made a mistake getting rid of a chunk of their library in favor of these original series. I just signed up for Hulu about a month ago and I'm already using if far more than I do Netflix - there's just more choice. I'd rather watch a older, or harder to find series or movie than most of these current Netflix Originals.

This. I feel like a Netflix original used to come with some sort of signifier of quality. They should have just stayed more selective.

This....seems like overnight they had 50 movies and shows :smh:

They're fine. When you invest money you're in debt until your investment pays off.

Netflix is an institution. If they were in trouble they'd put in place the structure you'd expect: tiers of membership... The more you pay the fewer ads you see, and pay-per-view events which are cheap to make but can turn a dollar through views and ads.

No biggie.

You're telling me the cheapest Netflix subscription is 7.99 dollars a month, multiplied by 104 million subscribers it should be about 8.300.960.000$ in revenue a month, and that is not enough for these people to not be in debt?

how do these things play out :oprah:

I need them to finish Stranger Things 2 in full, at least.

The only original serie I like from them is OITNB anyway, all their other series suck. I'm even thinking about canceling my subscription.

They'll be fine for the immediate future, no worries.

OT: Yeah they could be more selective about their original content or about saving pitched tv shows and then claiming them "netflix exclusives"

For example, the marvel series (other than Iron Fist) is some of the best TV ive seen in years, so are shows like House of Cards, Grace & Frankie, Sense8 (rip), etc. But no one is here for the cringe worthy variety show - comedy specials :rip: Lots of reboots and saved shows end up awful too. I do appreciate their concern for diversity and representation in media, its nice, but just looking at Netflix Originals RN and I have to scroll several frames before I'm genuinely interested in anything :smh: They need to refocus. Then maybe they'd have money for shows like Sense8 that had amazing fanbases and development - because those people will carry a show much better than fans of a comedy special will care :emma: Also, they need to be more hesitant about insta renewing series :rip:

I'm considering getting Hulu and canceling my Netflix subscription, Netflix keeps pulling shoes that I like and not adding ones I like either. And all the originals have been weak except early OITNB and Ozark

You can have lots of debt while having lots of capital and assets. Debt is beneficial when used appropriately.

Apple has about 100b in debt, Amazon about 65b.

Do you even know how costly it is to maintain the servers and infrastructure so 104 million sunscribers can watch their content? A lot of money goes into that every month, it's an enormous cost. There's not much money left to pay off the other bills

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride
