I said her personal beliefs don't matter as long as her actions are right. Even though she's privately against gay people being married she allowed the parliament to decide on this topic. If Putin or Trump are against gay or trans people I couldn't give two fücks about it. But when they enforce anti gay laws and ban trans people from military I do care. This is the difference. Merkel never did any of this. She never oppressed queer people in any way. So maybe you're the one who's being extra when you make such comparisons. That's not much to applause for. Trump and Putin are worse by horse miles of course, but that doesn't necessarily make Merkel good. In my opinion a good leader doesn't have anything against LGBT rights, because he or she realizes that LGBT rights are human rights and I can't say that about Merkel even if she "allowed" the parliament to vote.
