Every country deserves a leader who wants to join the Pride parades, not wanting to vote against same sex marriage. But she’s a conservative (+against gay marriage recently). On foreign politics, Macron is really trying something new about Europe with creating a group of leaders who wants to reform it, while Merkel was just taking the benefits of Europe and ignoring the bad points of the union... I don’t think they’re equal, on some points maybe, but not totally. But I do think that Merkel did her time. And yes, they can be so often chancellor as they want to as long the people vote for them. Merkel will probably win next elections. But it will be her last period most likely. Just by definition. She is all in for same rights, she just doesnt want it to call marriage. She is in favor of same-sex adoption which was the only difference left. It's her personal opinion, she's allowed to have one. First and foremost, she's a politician and what matters most are her political decisions and actions. Despite being against gay marriage she let the German parliament vote about it just a month ago. Isn't that what makes a great leader? Putting the interests of the public before your own?
